OPERATING-TABLE FOR ANIMALS.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, \Vanmon B. Hmon- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Zearing, in the county of Story and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful OperatingTable for Animals, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide an operating table for animals of simple, durable and inexpensive construction, especially adapted for use with hogs or other animals.

More particularly, it is the purpose of my invention to provide an operating table of the class described, upon which the animal may be laid, the table being so constructed and arranged that when the animal is placed in position on its back, it cannot escape and is in position for the performance of operations by the veterinary.

A further object is to provide in such a table, means for readily and quickly securing the hind legs of the animal in convenient position for performing operations, which means are adjustable longitudinally on the table and may also be adapted to fit the size of the animal.

A further object is to provide such a table having side wings which may be extended horizontally or folded u wardly so as to make a trough shaped tab e, and to provide means for holding the side wings in any position of their movement.

A further object is to provide in such a table an attachment for drawing one le of the hog or the like rearwardly and holc ing it in proper position for vaccination or other similar operations.

My invention consists in certain details, in the construction, combination and arrangement of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 shows a side elevation of my improved operating table for animals. Fig. 2 shows a central, vertical, sectional view through the table. Fig. 3 shows a rear elevation of my improved operating table. Fig. a shows a detailed view of adjustable means for fastening the animal on the table. Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of the slidably mounted adjusting blocks.

sizes and may be used animals of varying its trough form. \Vhen in its flat form or in the side wings are be placed on its back and cannot readily escape and is in comenicnt position for the performance of a large number of operations, such as castration, vaccination, reduction of ruptures or removal of tumors.

In the accompanying drawings, I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate the base or bed of the table which supported by front legs 11. and rear legs 12. Connecting the legs 11 and 1.2 respectively with the tables base or body 1.0 are braces 13. The rear legs 12 are longer than the front legs 11, thereby causing the table to be inclined downwardly from rear to front. Secured to the forward end of the table body 10 is a funnel shaped device 14, designed to receive the head of the animal. The funnel shaped device 1 1 is open at both ends. The device l t is not exactly funnel shaped insomuch as the bottom 15 thereof is flat to it the top of a hogs head. The bottom 15 is inclined on a substantially horizontal line, and it will therefore be noted, that it is inclined at an acute angle with reference to the table body 10. The funnel shaped device 11 which I shall hereafter call the head holding device, is of sufficient size at its smaller and forward end to permit the snout of a hog to pass through where it will be in convenient position for ringing the animal. The forward end of the flat bottom 15 of the head holding device l-l is cut away at 15, as shown in Fig. 2, for the purpose of giving more ready access to the snout of the hog.

Hinged to the body 10 of the table, on each side thereof, are side wings or members 16, which are so arranged that their downward movement is limited to permit them to rest in a horizontal position, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3. Pivoted to the rear end of one of the side wings 11'), at the free edge thereof, is a curved bar 17 provided with a plurality of notches 18. On the rear end of the other side wing 16, near the free edge thereof, is a keeper '19) provided with an opening to receive the free end of the curved bar 17 under the suitable edge to engage the notches 18.
