Description

aweeaeww MARTIN MACKENZIE, OF MALDEN, MASSACHUSETTS.
Lezers Patent No. 90,283, aztec Ma/Jls, 1869.
IMIPROVED' KEY-HOLE GUARD.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all 'whom fit 'may concern,.-v
Be it known that I, MARTIN MACKENZIE, of Mal-- den, iu the county of Middlesex, and State ofMassacliusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lock-G uards; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same.
Plate l. represents the largest part of my invention, and is composed of one piece of metal, A iB.
At A, one or more holes are drilled, the use of which I shall hereafter describe. The thickness aud length of A, B will vary according to the size of the lockto which 'the lock-guard is to be attached. From D to B the metal is to be rabbeted out about one-half. (See edge View, plate 5.)
Plate 2 represents a pieceof metal, equal in size to the part removed from D B, plate 1, and which I make secure 0u I) B, by means cfa rivet at dalt C. Plate 2 becomes a lever, the largest arm of which extends from the rivet G to B.
Plate 3 is a view of my invention complete, and
Plaie 4 represents the natural. movement of the lever I-I I, seen at plate 6, when practically applied.
A C represents a sectional view of a do0rframe, and B D, a common lock. T S, the lock-guard. By the falling of the. lever H I, the guard is secured on the inner side of the door.
At T, a padlock is secured through one of the holes y described, thus forming a double security.
The mode of securing my lock-guard within the lock is simple. I push the lock-guard, as seen at plate 3, through the key-hole of the lock, when the lock is so constructed as to admit 'of such action, far enough to admit the long arm of the level' to fall down, as shown at Figure 6, plate 6.
When I desire to remove the lock-guard, I rst remove the padlock, then push the lock-guard through into the room, clearing it ofthe lock..
Having described my invention, and its mode of application, I desire to secure the same by Letters Patent.
I claim as new, the eccentric lever H I, secured by the rivet O to the' major part, T S, of the lock-guard, arranged to pass through the key-hole, and be secured bv any suitable fastening-device upon the other side. (See plate 6.)
