IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-LOCKS.

'lO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, HENRY RABORG GIILLINGHAM, of the city of Baltimore, county of Baltimore, and State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door, Safe, or Pad-Locks and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents an inside view of the lock.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement oi the spring levers i'n the centrev of the bolt-plate, operating upon small upright tumblers that secure the bolt when locked or unlocked, the bolt containing the devices between and within its side plates, with a dat spring attached to the back part lof the case of the lock that has a pin that falls into two apertures in the back of the bolt-plate as an additionalA security to hold the bolt when locked or unlocked. y

A represents the case orv outside plates of the lock, with the apertures B for the. insertion of screws to fasten it together. C, a dat spring, riveted fast to case A, with a projecting pin, D, at its lower end, to fall into the apertures E E in the back of the bolt-plate H to hold the bolt F securely to its place when locked or unlocked. The bolt F is solid at its front end, but more than three-fourths of its length is formed of two plates, G and H, the front plate G having an angular recess, J, for the ward of the key to catch in. The back plate H operates on the flat spring C, and as it slides 'back or forward the pin D falls into either aperture E to hold the bolt. L L are two levers, with springs M attached. The levers operate en a fulerum-pivot, N, and

' their points fit into upright tumblers P P, that operate verticallyby means of the raising or lowering of the points of the levers L L as the levers are acted upon by the 'wards of the key. These tumblers P P are held between two projections or posts, R, that secure the bolt F when it is locked or unlocked. This lock has also two circular wards S S on each plate A, with which the wards of the key correspond, .and whichn likewise secure the lock against being picked or opened by burglars.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination and arrangement of the vertical sliding tumblers P P, operated by the spring levers L L pivoted between the side bolt-plates G and I-I, the latter being held and secured by the spring pin-D in. both the locked and unlocked position of the bolt, substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
