SIMON FRIGONE, OF OHIGAGO LAWN, ILLINOIS.
WE ATHER-STRIP.
\ cutting off the draft and preventing rain from blowing under the door.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel con'ibination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention;
In the drawing :-F igure 1 is a-perspective view of a weather strip, constructed in accordance with this invention and shown applied to a door, the latter being open. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, the door being closed. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of'the weather strip, illustrating the arrangement of the inner elastic strip and the outer hinged strip when the door is partly open. Fig. 4 is a detail view of a portion of the outer strip.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
The weather strip is equipped with an inner elastic strip 1, and an outer hinged strip 2, secured to a door 3 by an attaching strip 4:, which is preferably in the form of a piece of molding. The elastic strip 1, which is fitted against the outer face of the door, has its upper edge 5 secured to the attaching strip and arranged between the same and the door. The attaching strip is provided in the lower portion of its inner face with a recess 6 to receive the upper edge of the elastic strip, and the end 1 of the elastic strip adjacent to the hinged edge of the door is preferably tacked, or otherwise secured to the same, as clearly shown Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 427,853.
in Fig. 1. The lower edge of the elastic strip fits against the threshold or carpet strip 7 of the door sill and cuts off the draft and eifectually excludes the weather. The attaching strip has a lower projecting portion 8, over-hanging the upper portion of the hinged strip 2, which preferably consists of a strip of wood having a metallic covering 9. The upper edge of the hinged strip is equipped with eyes 10, which are linked into eyes 11, depending from the over-hang- 7 ing portion of the attaching strip.
The hinged strip protects the elastic strip from the weather and prevents the same from becoming wet and freezing against the carpet or threshold strip, and it also bears against the elastic strip ata point below the upper attaching edge of the same, when the door is closed, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing, and tends to hold the elastic strip against the door and the sill. The metallic covering not only strengthens the hinged strip, but increases the weight of the same so as to enable it to hold the elastic strip in position for cutting off the draft.
When the door is opened, both the inner elastic strip and the outer hinged strip are supported in an elevated position above the floor by means of a curved bar 12, presenting a smooth flat upper face and having its outer end 13 secured to the sill and seated in the recess thereof. The inner end 1 of the curved supportingbar is angularly bent to provide a foot, which is secured to the floor. The door is easily opened and closed, and the weather strip effectually excludes the weather.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A weather strip including an inner flexible elastic strip arranged to fit against a door and a door sill, and an outer hinged strip arranged to bear against the elastic strip to hold the same against the door when the latter is closed.
2. A weather strip including an attaching strip, an elastic strip connected at its upper edge with the attaching strip and adapted to fit against the outer face of the door and the door sill, and an outer hinged strip supported by the attaching strip and arranged to bear against the inner elastic strip when the door is closed.
3. In a weather strip, the combination of an attaching strip provided with depending face of the door, an elastic strip having its vated position When the door is opened.
upper edge secured between theattaching In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as strip and the door and arranged to fit my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature 5 against the latter and the sill thereof, a in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
hinged strip provlded W1th eyes linked into SIMON -FRIGONE eyes and designed to be secured to the outer support the inner and outer strips in an elethe eyes of the attaching strip and arranged i to bear against the elastic strip when the Vitnesses: door is closed, and a curved supporting bar EDWIN REEVES, 10 arranged to extend lnwardly from the s1ll to \VILLIS J.
