Description

I A. WATERMAN.
smT MARKER. APPLICATION IILED I33. 7, 1908.
902,029. Patent d Oct. 27, 1908.
v itwzooeo UNITED sirnrnspggnnir oiunon.
ALBERT WATERMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SKIRT-MARKER.
Application filed February 7, 1908.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT WATERMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Imrovement in Skirt-Markers, of which the folowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
The pur iose of the invention is. to so construct a skirt marker that it may be attached to a mirror in such a manner that it can be immediately and effectively brought into action and when not needed be swung back out of the way.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide a skirt marker that will not require the erson being fitted to keep constantly turning during the marking operation, and which will be simple, durable and economic, comprising but few parts and those capable of being conveniently and expeditiously operated.
The invention consists in the novel con struction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is had to the accom anying drawings forming a part of this s ec' cation, in which similar characters of re erence indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a standing mirror and the improved marker applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged horizontal section taken ractically on the line 22 of Fig. 1, and ig. 3 is a perspective view of a slightly modified form of the device.
A represents a standing or full length mirror and A the frame thereof having suitable supports a that usually rest upon the floor. The frame A at one side, usually between its center and upper end, is provided with a bracket having an u wardly eX- tending member 11, and a second bracket 12 is located at the bottom portion of the mirror frame upon the same side and this lower bracket is also provided with an upwardly extending member 13.
In the form of the device shown in Fig. 1, a swinging body member B is employed comprising an upper section 14, usually horizontal and provided with a socket 15 to receive the member 11 of the upper bracket 10, a downwardly extending section 15 and a lower also usually horizontal section 16, that is provided with a socket 17 adapted to re Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 27, 1908.
Serial No. 414,753.
ceive the member 13 of the lower bracket 12. Thus this swinging member or frame B, can be swung back of the mirror or to one side out of the way, or can be swung across the front of the mirror around a person standing before the glass.
The swinging frame or member B is adapted to carry a marking device shown best in Fig. 2. This device consists of a sleeve 18 mounted to slide upon the connecting or vertical section 15 of the frame held in adjusted position by a set screw 19, or its equivalent, and said sleeve is provided with a horizontal lug 20, that is pivoted between a pair of lugs 21, extending from an end portion of a carrier C, for a marking arm D. The sleeve 18 is therefore capable of vertical movement and the carrier is capable of a lateral swinging movement. The marking arm D is usually in the form of a tube and has free end movement in the carrier (l, and said arm at its inner or working end is provided with a longitudinal recess 22 adapted to receive a stick of chalk 23 or like marking material held in place usually by elastic bands 24 or the like. Preferably the carrier is constructed as shown in Fi 2, wherein it consists of circular end members 0 and a connecting or body member a segmental in cross-section, so as to admit of the marking-arm being operated with the least possible friction.
It is evident that when a marker is constructed as described and mounted as shown, that a person can stand before the mirror and that the skirt can be marked fully two-thirds of its circumference before the person being fitted need to change position. Furthermore, all necessity of persons mounting a platform is avoided, likewise the necessity of moving a heavy object from place to place, since the device is always at hand in the fitting room and can be instantly brought into action and as quickly swung out of the way when not required.
In Fig. 3, the swinging frame B, the equivalent of the frame shown in Fig. 1, consists of a band, preferably of thin springy material, whose ends are made to overlap, giving it a circular form. This outer end 25 is provided with a socket 27, adapted to receive and swing upon the member 18 of the lower bracket 12, while the inner end 26 is provided with a longitudinal slot 28, through which a thumb screw 29 is passed into the outer end 25, whereby the two ends are adjustably connected. In using this form of frame, the person being fitted stands within the frame and the marking device is moved around the frame.
The marking device is the same as that used in connection with the frame B, except that instead of the horizontal lugs 21, lugs 30 extend downwardly from the carrier C and straddle the band or frame B in such manner that the carrier may be moved around the frame. The marking arm D is the same as that shown in Fig. 2.
When the form of swinging frame B is employed, the member 13 of the lower bracket 12 is made long enough to admit of Vertical adjustment of the frame.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a skirt marker, the combination with a mirror and its frame, ofa swinging frame carried by the mirror frame, and a marking device carried by the swinging frame.
2. In a skirt marke r, the combination with a mirror and its frame, of a swinging frame carried by the mirror frame and mounted to be swung to the front or rear of the mirror, a
carrier adjustable upon said frame and a marking arm adjustable in said carrier.
3.. In skirt markers, the combination with a mirror and its frame of an auxiliary frame, mounted at one side of the mirror frame to swing in the arc of a circle to the front'or back of the mirror, a carrier adjustably mounted upon the swinging auxiliary frame, and a marking arm having sliding movement in said carrier.
