HOSE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 619,517, dated February 14, 1899. Appiicaionieanngast12,1898. stanno. 688,451. (No model-.1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. TRAMMEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Huntington, in the county of Huntington and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention is directed to improvements in holders for hose, and has for its object the provision of an efficient device of this character possessing advantages in point of simplicity and cheapness of construction and durability.
One feature of my invention resides in the provision of means whereby the hose may be held in a variety of positions to direct the stream or spray of water to different points, such variations in direction as well as changes in the location of the support being effected without discomfort to the user.
The nature of my invention will be fully understood by reference to the following detailed description and to the accompanying drawings, which form a part thereof.
In the drawings, Figure l illustrates in perspective View my improved hose-holder, two different positions thereof being indicated by full and dotted lines. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the holder, showing in full and dotted lines other positions which it may be caused to assume. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the holder in folded condition.
Referring to the said drawings by letter, A denotes the body of the holder, which is preferably made in two parts a and ct, hinged together at a2 a2, whereby said parts may be adjusted at right angles, as shown in Figs. l and 2, or folded together, as shown in Fig. 3, to secure small compass when not in use and for transportation. If desired, however, the body A may be of permanent rightangle form,in which event the parts a and a' thereof are either integral with each other or rigidly secured together. part a is a hose-clamp b, and similar clamps At the outer end of the b b2 are provided on the part a', whereby the hose and its nozzle are held without movement on said body and in such a manner as to preclude kinking. Each of the clamps comprises a fixed member b3 and a movable member b4, the latter being pivotally secured to the body by a screw b5 or the like. The opening b of the clamps receives the hose, the movable member being first turned to the position indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. For convenience in manufacture the clamps are each formed with the members in one piece, and a cut is made diagonally across the front to the opening b, whereby a rest is provided for the movable member when brought into clamping position.
At each side of the part a and near its outer end is pivotally secured an arm c, which may be turned up against said side, as shown, or which may be moved downward to substantially a right-angle position to afford a support for the body when the latter is tilted forwardly to incline the nozzle, as illustrated by the dotted lines in Fig. l. An arm d,
pivoted to the back of the part a', enables the body to be supported in a tilted position either to the right or left of the vertical, such position being shown in Fig.2. It will therefore be observed that by my improved holder the hose-'nozzle may be adjusted toa vertical position, to a forwardly-inclined position, or to inclinations to either side of the vertical, and that with such provision of adjustment the stream or spray of water may be directed to play upon a large area of ground without the necessity of changing the location of the holder.
The nature of the holder and the manner in which the hose is attached render it possible to convey it from point t0 point and to effect the adjustments without danger of wetting the user.
One advantage possessed by my invention lies in the facility with which the hose is attached to or detached from the holder, this being effected without the necessity of turning od the water. Moreover, the holder being very light of weight may be comfortably held bythe user if it is desired to direct the nozzle by hand.
The hose and holder may be dragged or raised and carried to any point and all of the IOO being few in number and simple in construction there is no liability to disorder.
I claim as my invention 1. A holder for hose comprising a body formed of two parts arranged substantially at a right angle to cach other, clamps on said parts for the hose, arms on one of the parts for supporting the body and attached hose in a forward inclination, and an arm on the other part for supporting the body and hose in side inclinations, substantially as set forth. 2. A holder for hose comprising a body formed of two foldable parts adapted to be adjusted at right angles to each other, pivoted arms at each side of one of the parts, a pivoted arm at the rear of the other part, and hose-clamps on said parts, each comprised of a fixed member and apivoted movable memu ber, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aix Imy signature in presence of two Witnesses.
