FRANZ WILHELM THEODORE KR'EISEL, OF WARRENTON, VIRGINIA.
CRIB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
matted Oct. 20, 1908.
Application filed January 28, 1908. Serial No. 413,076.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ lViLHELM Tnnonoan KREISEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVarrenton, in the county of Fauquier and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cribs, of which the following is a specification. 1
This invention relates to improvements in childr'ens cribs, and the object is to provide a simple construction of crib which when not in use may be quickly and readily folded to compact form and which ma be adapted as a playground for the chil durin the day, removable seats and a table leaf heing provided.
lVith the above object in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, par- Fticularly pointed out in the claims. and clearly illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a top plan viewv of the improved crib folded; Fig. 2, a top plan view of the same assembled and with the table leaf and seats in-position; Fig. 3, a vertical longitudinal sectional view; Fig. at, a detail view showing the swinging clamping memhere for holding the crib assembled in top plan view, and Fig. 5, a similar view showing said clamping members in side elevation.
Referring. now more particularly to the drawing, 1 designates the sides and 2, the endsof the crib composed of bars spaced from each other and arranged one above the other, the bars of the sides and ends of the crib alternating whereby those of the ends extend between those of the sides so as to interlock. Vertical rods 3 extend through the overlapping ends of the bars of the sides and ends of the crib thereby hinging the latter together so that the crib may be folded to the compact form shown in Fig. 1. The rods are provided at their respective ends with retaining members 4 which may be threaded thereon, the members 4 being illustrated as spherical, those on the lower ends of the rods constituting feet for the crib. The retaining members 4 may be of any desired sha e.
a For lockin the crib in its assembled or opened posit1on,'I .provide swinging memcrib and provided with flanges 6 at their side edges. These members are'hlnged to the upper bars of the sides of. the crib at the respective ends thereof and when swung downwardly enga e the upper bars of the ends of the crib, t e flanges 6 engaging the side ed es of said upper end bars.
The ottom 7 of the crib is supported at the desired height in the crib by insertmg its ends between two adjacent bars of the crib ends, transverse bars 8 on the under side of said bottom limiting the movement of the latter in either direction. It will be readily seen that this bottom may be positioned at an desired height.
ee-ts 9 are provided, which may also be inserted at any desired height, the ends of the seats extendin between adjacent bars of the crib sidesyan a table section or leaf 10 is similarly arranged. These seats and the table leaf are provided on their under sides with cleats 11 which limit their movement in either direction.
From the above description it will be seen bottom is removed may be instantly folded to compact form, and further that the depth of the crib may be varied by adjusting the bottom section. By removing the bed clothing and mattress and placing the bottom in the desired position the crib may be used as a playground during the day, the seats being proper positions according to the size of the child, thereby providing convenient means for giving the child refreshment and also a sup ort for playthings.
aving thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to se cure by Letters Patent of the United States 1s:
1. A crib having its sides and ends formed of spaced bars arranged one above the other, the meeting ends of the bars of the sides and ends of the crib alternating and overlapping, securing means passing through the overlapping ends of the bars, and an adjustable bottom adapted to be supported at its respective ends by being inserted between any two adjacent bars of the crib ends.
2. A crib having its sides and ends formed inserted together with the table leaf in the bers 5 pivoted at the four corners of the i that I have provided a crib, which after the Q of spa cea'ti arranged one above the other, side edges of the upper bars of the other the meeting ends of the bars of the sides end part.- v I 6 ends of the cllb alternatmg and overlappmg, In testimdn" whereof I aflix my signilture, rods passing through the overlagpmg ends 1n presence .0 two witnesses.
and hinging the si and ends of the crib FRANZ WILHEL'M' THEODORE KREISKB; together, and swmgmg members earned by- Wltnessesz the upper bars of either the sides or ends and R. 0. ST. CLAIR,
having side flanges adapted to engage the E. J. HOTCHKISS.
