HUGO KARDOS, OF HOMESTEAD, PENNSYLVANIA.
TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 20, 1908.
Application filed February 4, 1908. Serial No. 414,240.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGO KARDOS, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Homestead, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This .invention relates to tables particularly designed for advertising purposes.
The primary object of my invention is, to provide a table with movable pictures, for attracting attention.
A further object of this invention is to provide a table with a plurality of advertisements arranged to surround a picture and protect it by a transparent plate.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a table that can be used in cafs, parks and public places for displaying advertisements.
With the above and other objects in view which will more readily appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be presently described and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the table, partly broken away, Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same, taken on the line 9cr of Fig. l, and Fig. 31s a plan ofthe table.
The table comprises a rectangular frame 1 supported by a p urality of legs 2, these legs being connected intermediate their ends by a brace-frame 3.
Upon the frame 1 is sup orted a table to 4 having a central rectangu ar opening 5. This opening is surrounded by a card or plate 6, which rests upon the table top 4 and is adapted to carry a series of advertisement cards in the spaces indicated in Fig. 3. Mounted upon the card or plate 6 is a transparent plate 7, said plate being retained in position by a metallic flanged frame 8 surrounding the table top 4.
Upon the brace frame 3 of the table is mounted a casing 9, said casing being secured to the table top 4, as at 10. In the casing are journaled two shafts 11 and 12, one above the other. The shaft 11. is provided with a small gear wheel 13 meshing with a large gear wheel 14, carried by the shaft 12, these gear wheels being arranged at one side of the casing 9.
The shaft 11 at the o posite end is provided with a large spiral spring 14 having one end secured to the shaft 11 and the other end secured to the casing 9, as at 15. The protruding end of the shaft 11 is formed with a rectangular shank 16 to receive a key 17 employed for winding the spring 14 Attached to the shaft 11 is an apron 18, said apron passing over rollers 19, j ournaled in the casing 9 at the upper edges thereof, said rollers protruding into the opening 5 of the table top 4 and supporting the apron directly beneath the transparent plate 7. The opposite end of the apron 18 is attached to t e shaft 12. The apron is made of a sufiicient length to carry a plurality of pictures or advertisements.
When the shaft 11 is rotated through the medium of the key 17, the apron will be wound upon said shaft simultaneously with the winding of the spring 14 When the key 17 is released the tension of the spring 14 through the medium of the gear wheels 13 and 14 will immediately rewind the apron upon the shaft 12. The large gear wheel 14 permits of a slow movement of the apron, whereby the pictures and advertisements can be observed through the transparent plate 7, as said pictures are ex osed by the a r011 18.
I do not care to con e myself to t e charactor of pictures or matter displayed by the apron, and such changes in the structural details of my invention as are permissible by the appended claims can be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the inventlon.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new, is
1. A table of the type described provided with legs, a frame supported by said legs, a table top carried by said frame and having an opening formed therein, a card or plate mounted upon said table top and having an opening registering with the opening of said table top, a transparent plate mounted upon said card, a flanged frame surrounding said table top for holding said transparent plate thereon, a casing arranged beneath said table top, a movable apron arranged within said casing'for traveling across the opening in said table top, and a shaft j ournaled in said casing for moving said apron in one direction, and a spring connecting with said shaft for moving the apron in the opposite direction.
2. A table of the type described provided with a table top, said table top having an opening formed therein, a transparent plate arranged upon said table top, a flanged frame surrounding said table top for retaining said plate thereon, a casing mounted beneath said 10 table top, a movable apron arranged therein for traveling across the opening in said table I top, shafts journaled in said casing and upon which said apron is adapted to wind, means for winding said apron upon one of said shafts and a spring to rewind said apron upon the other of said shafts.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
