VIEW-CARD.
Application filed August 17, 1907'.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 29, 1910.
Serial No. 389,082.
To all whom 'it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERMANN BECKER, citizen of Germany, residing at Munich, Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in View-Cards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to an improvement in view cards in which, by the drawing out of a card or the like, a pictured strip connected with the same is unrolled, and thereby the views located upon this strip are brought before the eyes of the observer.
In the accompanying drawings, the view card is shown in Figure l in plan, in Fig. 2 in longitudinal section, and in Fig. 3 in cross section with a partly unrolled view strip, while Fig. 4 shows a perspective View of the picture card from the rear with the outer case removed.
The view card consists of a guide device a formed of an endless strip of preferably smooth, strong and yet not too thick paper, which strip, by means of a cross strip Z) with laterally bent over tabs or ears I), is suitably connected to the outer case or envelop c in the manner shown in Fig. 8. Upon this guide strip is mounted loosely the endless view strip (Z provided with views such as pictures or the like and preferably of thin paper, which view strip is united by a cross strip a to the card f or united with it in other suitable manner. This card 7 is slidable in the outer case 0 and forms a drawstrip. By drawing out the strip f, the view strip will now slide upon the guide a where by the pictures, views, advertisements etc. which are placed upon the former, roll off before the eyes of the observer in the rectangular sight opening 9 of the envelop or outer case. By pushing in the strip f, the
I rolling takes place, obviously, in the reverse direction.
The draw-strip f can be a view card itself, as a general view of a place, while upon the strip (Z, in several fields, individual views of this same place are shown, or the entire view card can form or have attached thereto a guide for places worthy of visit, hotels and the like in such a way that the strip 7 carries a description of the same and the strip cl the pictures belonging thereto. Also there may be exhibited in the fields of the strip (Z commercial houses, factories etc. while upon the card 7 under corresponding reference numerals are placed advertisements or descriptions of the same.
For the purposes of this invention, pictures, views, advertisements, lists or other imprinted matter to be brought to the notice of the observer, are substantial equivalents, and are embraced within the general terms view or picture as used in the claims.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is l. A view card comprising a case with a slght opening formed therein, and a view strip mounted to move before the sight opening, in combination with a pictured draw strip attached to the view strip and normally underlying and hidden by the same, said draw strip arranged to be drawn from beneath the View strip to expose its pictured surface and to shift the View strip to progressively present a new portion thereof before the sight opening.
2. A view card comprising an outer case with a sight opening, a guide device mounted.
in the case and comprising a flattened endless frame of stifi material with its two extreme portions near the two ends of the case beyond the edges of the sight opening, an endless view strip mounted to move about the guide device before the sight opening, and a pictured draw-strip attached to the view strip whereby to move the View strip before said opening and expose to view the pictured face of the draw strip.
3. A view card comprising an outer case with a sight opening, a guide device mounted in the case and comprising a frame with its two extremes near the two ends of the case beyond the edges of the sight opening, an endless view strip mounted to move about the guide device before the sight opening, and a pictured draw-strip attached to the View strip and normally underlying and hidden by the same said draw-strip arranged to be drawn beyond the case to expose its pictured surface and to progressively present a new portion of the view strip before the sight opening, and tabs secured to the guide device and extending around the edges of the view strip and draw-strip and secured to the inner face of the case to position the guide device therein.
4. A view card comprising an outer case with a sight opening, a guide device mounted within the case, and a view strip mounted to move about the guide device before the sight opening, in combination with a pictured draw strip housed within the case and substantially coextensive therewith, said draw strip connected to the view strip and arranged to be drawn from the case to progressively expose its pictured face and to simultaneously operate the view strip to exhibit the views thereon before the sight opening.
A view card comprising an outer case with a sight opening, a guide device mounted within the case, and an endless view strip mounted to move about the guide device before the sight opening, in combination with a draw strip housed within the case and substantially coextensive therewith, the draw strip having its face imprinted with matter relating to that on the view strip, said draw strip connected to the view strip and arranged to be drawn from the case to progressively expose its face and to simultane ously operate the view strip to exhibit the corresponding views thereon before the sight opening.
(3. A view card comprising an outer case with a sight opening in one side, a guide card mounted within the case with its edges extending beyond the sight opening and near to the confines of the case, and an endless view strip mounted loosely around the guide card and confined thereon by the edges of the case, in combination, with a pictured draw strip secured at one end to the endless view strip and arranged to be withdrawn from the case to expose its pictured surface and to move the view strip about the guide card to exhibit the view thereon before the sight opening.
7. A View card comprising an outer case with a sight opening in one side, a guide card mounted within the case with its edges extending beyond the sight opening and near to the confines of the case, and an endless view strip mounted loosely around the guide card and confined thereon by the edges of the use, in con'lbination, with a pictured draw strip secured at one end to the endless view strip and likewise guided within the confines of the case, the draw strip arranged to be withdrawn from the case to expose its pictured face and to simultaneously move the view strip about the guide card to exhibit the views thereon before the sight opening.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
