UNITED srnr s rg rnnr OFFICE.
ARTHUR G. HUME, OF HOBART, NEW YORK.
ADVERTISING NOVELTY.
Application filed May 6, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR Gr. HUME, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Hobart, in the county of Delaware and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Advertising Novelties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to advertising novelties, and one of the principal objects of the same is to rovide an advertising card designed partlcularly for use in street car advertising, said card being provided with a mirror attached thereto in position to form a part of the design of the card.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and attractive street car advertising card which will attract attention of passengers .to the advertisement on the card, and which may be produced at comparatively slight cost.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a portion of the interior of a car having an advertising card placed in position therein, said advertising card having a mirror secured thereto in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of a metallic holding strip" for holding the mirror in place on the card. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the mirror frame. Fig. 5 is a sectional view'showing the manner of engaging the holding strip with the mirror frame.
Fig. 6 18 a similar view showing the mirror attached to the card.
Referring to the drawing for amore particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates an advertising card to which a mirror 2 is secured. The mirror 2 is shown in the form of a disk secured to a metallic frame 8, said frame being provided with slots 4 in the back portion thereof.
To secure the mirror to the card I make Specification of Letters Patent.
, said members Patented April 14, 1908.
Serial No. 372,129.
use of a thin, elastic sheet metal holding device comprising parallel members 5 and 6, being connected by a central Web 7 and bent upward from said web is a pair of holding fingers 8 provided with inturned lugs 9. To secure the mirror to the card 1 the fingers 8 are passed through the card, and the members 5 and 6 are bent backwardly, as shown in Fig. 5, to separate the fingers 8, so that they will readily engage the slots 4 in the back of the mirror, after which the holding device is straightened out or curved in the opposite direction, as shown in Fig. 6, which is the normal position of the card-when it is held in the curved space above the windows in the car.
From the foregoing it will be understood that the advertising card 1 is designed to have a pictorial representation thereon in which the mirror forms a portion of the picture, as for instance, a lady holding a hand mirror up to her face, the mirror 2 forming the mirror portion of the picture. Persons sitting in the car are attracted to the card 1, owing to the fact that they see their faces reflected in the glass.
My invention may be produced at slight cost, will be particularly attractive to passengers, and can be used in various kinds of advertising, and for various designs in picture cards.
Having thus I claim is:
A device of the class described comprising a mirror having a frame provided with slots in the back portion thereof and a thin metal holder having inwardly extending fingers to engage the slots in said frame, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR G. HUME.
