CHARLES J'. NELSON, LAURIUM, MICHIGAN.
POCKET MATCH-SAFE.
Specification of Letter: Patent.
Patented Oct. 20, 1 908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. NELSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Laurium, in the county of Houghton, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Pocket Match- Safes; and do hereby declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description 0 the invention, such as will enable others skilled. in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in pocket match safes.
he object of my invention is to provide a neat, simply constructed match receiving receptacle, so arranged that after having been charged, the receptacle can be emptied of its matches, one at a time, as will be described more fully hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 showsan elevation of a match-box embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 shows a bottom view. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view. Fig. 5 discloses an end view. Fi 6 is a sectional viewlooking downward, and ig. 7 a detail of the plunger.
In carrying out the object of my invention, I construct a match-safe, preferably of sheet metal, and marked' a in the drawings, which is provided along one side with a longitudinal corrugation b, forming a match receiving channel, which extends the full length of the receptacle a. This rece tacle at one or more oints is provided wit the abrading suraces x, as shown, and midway of its ends, has the bottom a rovided with the central bead e, forming a channel to receive the ends of the matches, this channel emptying intoand coinciding with the channel forming corrugation b, as disclosed.
At one end I provide the top a held by the I hinge d and at the other end the fixed cap a secured by sold'er or other means. The cap a is positioned below the slanting bottom 0 and forms with said bottom a receptacle 7).
The cap a is provided with suitab e slots Z and 'm, within which are held the win s of the plunger, as used in my invention. his cap 1s further provided with the opening a: throu h which the match drops when escaping from the box a.
The lunger at one end has the lip 9 form-- ing a 'ger piece by means of which the plunger is actuated-while at the other end,
this plunger is rovided with the win s n, n and the ate "i, t e latter being normalIy held within t e corrugation b, to prevent any match within said corrugation passing out of the feed end ofsaid channel forming corrugation. The wingsn check the movement of the plunger, as they work within the slots Z and m. 1
In using the safe, theo erator fills the magazine forming receptac e with suitable matches. Now when a match is desired, the
operator so tilts the receptacle that one 7 match will find lodgment wlthin the channel forming corrugation b, then shoves the lunger h to uncover the feed opening at the bottom-of the channel b. In this position, one match will drop out. of the channel. After the match is delivered the gate is carried into its original position to close the channel.
The device is neat and simple of operation and having thus described my said invention, what I'clalm is.
In a match-box, the combination with a receptacle having a longitudinal corrugation forming a match-receiving channel, a bottom within said receptacle having a centrally disposed bead forming a channel, said bottom slanting towards said corru ation, a hinged top secured to said r'eceptac e, a cap secured said channel forming corrugation, said wlngs limiting the movement of said plunger, as set forth. I
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature,
in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES J. NELSON.
