` GEORGE E. BRETHZLL,` or ROCHESTER -NE vvd YORK.
f Leners Patent No, 90,1153, dated May 1s, 1869.
` mnovrzn Mop-HEAD.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent `and making partici' the same.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. BRETTELL, of Rochester, in the countyLof Monroe, in the State of New York, have invented a new and improved MopHead;
` and: I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making apart of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a vertical front' View, showing the position of theV several parts previous to the insertion of the mop-oloths.
Figure 2 is a vertical side view, showing the posi-` tion of the` several parts as they are while holding the cloths. p L LTO the in;` another is, that thewolking-parts are generally composed of castings ,which cannotA be` or are not fiuished, `so that they workihard, and the cloths are not held firmly, or they are with `diiiiculty taken out.
The objeotof this invention is to overcome these objections.V Y i i i To enable others to `make and use my invention, I will describe its construction and operation.
I provide, iu one piece, the sleeve A and the stationary jaw C G.
i I also provide the movable jaw D, the cloth-bar B,
the screw E, and the thumb-nnte. The jaws O G and D are each provided; at h, with a slot vof sufcient size to receive the screw E, which is provided with ahead, or' its equivalent, f, to prevent the screw from being drawn through the slot in the jaw O 0.
mop-headswhich are now .generally used, j `thereare many objections raised. One isthat the cloths have .to be drawn through a narrow opening, and then evenly arranged previous to fastening them The movable jaw D is hinged loosely upon the stationary jaw C C, at i.
The movable jaw D is operated by the screw Eand thumb-nut e.
The bar Bhinges upon the pivot c. -It is prevented from swinging open anyfurther than the position shown by the 'projection-b, tig. 1.
The cloths are laid upon the barB, which is then` brought to the position. shown in fg.'2, between the open jaws,'the hooked end-d of the har being placed behind the projection a, which, when the jaws G C and D are closed, prevent the bar B from being moved from its position.
By this means, the cloths are held iirmlyand se` curely. The screw E and thumb-.nut e being properly fitted, insure their always working easily.
, The serewE and nut e may be mad'e of brass, (beingV light,) or other suitable material, to prevent them from rusting. i n
The bar B maybe solarrauged as to be detached, to
place the cloths upon, by providing two hooked ends, similar tothe end d, and two projections similar to a,
instead ot' the projection a and pivot c.l
` TheY handle H is driven into the sleeve A, and secured by a rivet. j
' Claim.
`What' I claim as my invention, and desire to secure `by Letters Patent, isv The combination 'of the jaws O C and D with the cloth-bar B and screw` E, nut e, and sleeve A, when vconstructed and arranged substantially as described.
' l GEO. E. BRETTELL.
