Description

F. W. DEAN, O'F'TREMONT, ILLINOIS.
f.) o eeeaethe. g
Letters Patent N0.'83,476, dated October 27, I868.
RVIPRO'VED TRAOE-FASTENER.
The Schedule referred. to in these Letters Patent and making part 'of the same.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, F. W. DEAN, of Tremont, in the county of Tazewell, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in -Trace-Fastenings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of" this specification, in which the figure rep-.
resents a perspective view of my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicatecorresponding arts. l p The object of this invention is to provide a simple, efiicient, and easily-operated trace-fastenmg.
It consists of a link, hinged to the single-tree in such amanner that it will hold the trace from Slipping off fromthe pin, in the end of the single-tree, and may also bemoved away fiom the pin when the trace is to he slipped over the pin.
In the accompanying drawings The end of a single-tree, A, is shown, with my improved fastening, and also a modification of the same.
B is'the link, hinged to the plate I), which latter is aflixed tothe back of the single-tree, as shown.
' The"'link is held forward of the pin .4, being too short to pass the pin. I l
When the trace is to beattached on the pin a, it is passed through the link B, which is swung forward, clear of the pin, for that purpose. The trace is bent slightly, after it passes through the link, to bring it upon the pin, and the latter is slipped into one of the holes. The link is then moved back against the pin,
as shown in the drawing. When in this position, it holds the trace from slipping on by accident.
A modification of the same is shown at D, which is simply a half link or hook, pivoted, by a plate, (I, to the upper or lower side of the single-tree.
This link has a claw, e, which clasps against the pin, as shown.
WVith this half link, the trace can he slipped on the pin more easily, although the link must be made somewhat stouter, to obtain'the required strength.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent p The loop B, hinged to the rear of the single-tree A, and adapted to rest against the front side .of the pin to, outside the'trace, and the equivalent of the hoop B, as shown at D (Z and e c, all operating as described, for the purpose specified.
F. W. DEAN.
