No. 900,880. A
Application filed April 6,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dct..13, 1908 1908. Serial N0. ll25,506.
To all whom 'it 'may concern: l
Be it known that l, EUNron PACKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hydesvi'lle, in the county of Humboldt and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements ,inv Dry- (loods Markers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the Aaccompanying drawings. f
.My invention relates to improvements in devices for use in sewing rooms, dry goods stores, and tailoring y establishments, for marking cloth or other dry goods, and it consists of the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to'provide a 'dry goods marker which will be simple and comparatively inexpensive in construction and exceedingly convenient and handy in use.
The above and other objects Iof the invention are attained in its preferred embodiment illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a pas 'view of my improved dry goods marker;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section;
section through the same.
My improved marking tool comprises a handle 1 at one end of which may be rovided a suitable hand gri 2 and the ot er end vof which is preferab y forked or bifurcated to provide spaced arallel arms 3. Suitably secured to the en of the latter is a transverse bar or axle 4 yon which are mounted one or more marking members 5 and two supporting Wheels 6, 7. These wheels are disposed adja-m cent to the arms 3 and are mounted to rotate freely on the axle 4 between iixed stop collars 8 and removable collars or washers 9.
Said shaft or rod 4 is preferably cylindrical and its ends are preferably attached to the arms 3 by forming them with transverse open- -ings 10 to receive the reduced screw threaded ends 11 of the arms 3, clamping nuts l2 being'provided u on said ends to permit of the ready remova of the shaft.
While the markers 5' may be of any suitable form and construction, I preferabl make them as illustrated or in the form of olders for pileces of chalk C or any other suitable mar gsubstanceormaterial. Eachof said members or holders referably formed from a piece of sheetmcva stamped and bent as illustrated to provide parallel arms 13 united at one end by a cross portion 14 and having adjacent to said cross portion circular enlargements 15 in which are formed openings to -receive the shaft or rod 4. The free ends of the arms 13 are shaped to provide jaws 16 to receive the chalk C betweenithem. Said arms are drawn together to clamp the chalk between the jaws 16 by means of a clamping screw 17 having a milled head or finger piece and a-tlireaded body which is passed through an o ening in one of the arms 13 and into a screw threaded opening or aperture in the other. l
By constructing the holders as described, it will be seen that they may be slid longitudinally upon the bar 4 and also rotated thereonto dispose them at any angle. They are secured in an adjusted position u on the shaft by heads set screws 18 having mille threaded apertures formed inthe cross portions 14 of the holders and ada ted to imypinge against the shaft 4, as c early illus- "trated in the drawings..
the set screws 18 permit the holders to be positioned at any angle -so that one or more' of the latter may be ad'usted for use while the others may be turne to andsecured in inoperative positions. To. facilitate the adjustment of the holders, the shaft or rod 4 may be provided with scale graduations 19 of any description.
From the 4foregoin it will be seen that my improved marker wi l be exceedingly handy in dressmakin and tailoring establishments and, also, in al dry goods stores. lt will be device is simple and therefore it may be produced at a comparatively small cost and will be' strong and durable. 1t is also exceedin ly easy to adjust and use. aving thus described my invention what l claim is:
1. A marker comprising a handle having spaced arms at one end, a rod arranged between said arms, supporting wheels, and a marking member longitudinally adjustable upon the rod.' i
4 2. A marker comprising a handle having spaced arms at oneend, a rod arranged be- 3. A. marker compris.
further noted that the construction of the' and threaded portions which are arranged in lt will be seen that tween said arms', supporting wheels, a markj d im waa ha'ndlahaving vided with spaced firms" nxtone ond, 5i rod. nrrnngecl l etween said arms, supporting Wheels, scale I mduntions nnon the rod and marking 1neini ers ndjnstalo y .mounted upon the rod.
4i. A marker comprising. o handle having np'noed arms et, one 'anche rod arranged bei -fneen snidnrms, supporting Wheels, and n l plurality of shall; holders adjustnblj mount:-
5. A marker comprising a handle having arms ai one end, a rod arranged be# tween said arms, supporting wheels, a, ehnlk .holder having oneend slid ably and rotatably mounted upon the led and its other end progripping jaws, means for closing mid jaws, sind means for seein-inothe holder in in adjusted posiion upon the rod.
6. A marker oolnprising n handle having Jveen'snidnrms, supportingwheels, n ehnll' entree@ holder having n body lient n on itself to provide a closed end and spncm znins, Suid und being formed with n. threaded npmtln-o :ind said erin being formed adjacent to smid end with nlined openings to receive the rod7 .Smid arms being also provided at, their free cnds with jaws, and in their intemnmlintc pmtions with nlined apertures, one oi" which is Screw threaded, :i set screw nrrnngvd in the upm tures in the nuns ot the holdoi for drawing' Jdie inns together :1nd .f1y set .screw nrrnngrcd in the tlnfndod opening or :ipertnio in the closed end of the holder ind adapted to ini pingo against tho rod.
