o l Y' Y The Schedule referred to in theseLetters Patent and making part of the sama.
, all whom it `,co/nacre:4 L
. Be it known that l, HENRYMRGA, of Beverly, county of Essex, and State ofMa'ssachusetts have invented a new and improvedMethod for Attaching to the Soles of Boots and Shoes, Heels Made of Vul` scription thereof, reference being lhad to the accompanying drawings, and letters of reference thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in placing within the moulds pieces offmetaLor other materialA which `,attach the heel ,to the sole, andalsoembedding in the composition While within themoulds, and in a plasticvv l state, pieces for strengthening and giving durability to E the heel also placing within the moulds pieces of leather, or other material, toform a tap-lift; also placi ing within the moulds a screwggso thatthe compositionf while in a plastic state, on being pnt into the moulds,
l and becoming hardby'compressiou or chemica1 change,
shall embed thesel `pieces permanently and securely therein, excepting the screw, `which may be turned out, leaving a matrix or thread inthe heel.
ing the `pieces oi' metal, marked c, for attaching the lheel, and b, for strengthenin'gthe heel embeddedthereinf Figure 2 represents the bottom, or portion of aheelthat comes in contact lwitlr the sole. `a represents the piecesof metal for attaching to the sole.
Figurerg'epresents `the top of a heel,aud b,:'tl1'e pieces of-m'etal for strengthening the heel. y
Figure 4 `represents a cross-,section of a heelfc repf resenting the matrix formed bythe screw g.
Figure 5 represents the bottom, or portion of a heel that comes in contact with the sole. l
l Figurel 6 represents a cross-section of a mould for forming a heel of vulcanized wood, or-when` stance requires compression.
l 1 represents the body of 1 the mould.
l eis the bottomof ,the mould.V
, the sub-` fis a plunger or compression-piston. The bottom ofthe mould e has holes, in which are 'placed pieces of metal a, Figure 7or other material, or a screw, g,`fig.'-6, which project into the cavity of the mould so far as it is desired to embed them Within 'the heel.
The piston f having been removed, the :mould is lilled'with the composition. The pieces for strengthening the heelb can' then be placed `in the composition while plastic',and the piston applied, and the material compressed to thefrequired density.
' When it is desired to att-ach a leather tap-lift tok the face or bottom vof the heel, the -pieces b can be vsun-hinto holes in the piston f, thus causingthm to project beyond the top of theheel, andthe leather pressed Yonth em after they are .removed from the mould, or the leather tap-lift may be placed within the mould, and compressed with the material forming the body of `the heel. y
The pieces a, for attaching the heel, are to be of suitable length to pass through the solepof a boot or shoe, and to rivet within.
The matrix c is for attaching the heel by a screw, or its equivalent, passing from `Within the boot or shoe through thesole.
' Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire-to secure by Letters v Patent+` 1 f 1. Introducing into moulds for the formation heels, A
when constructedasdescribed, pieces of metal, or other material, by which the heel canbe attached to the sole of a boot or shoe. f
2. Introducinginto moulds for the formation of heels, when constructed as described, pieces .of metal, orv other y material, for strengthening and giving durability to heels.
3. Introducing into moulds for the formation of heels, when constructed as described, a screw, or its equivalent, tov produce a matrix, by whichY to attach them to thesoles of boots or shoes. `4:. Heels for boots and shoes, constructed as herein described, as a new article of manufacture.
