The; slots @in the brackets ermit a vertical ad 60 justment of the bedto ring itin proper rey `ationto theto band wheel, orto the bottom band whee as one or the other is to be ground; i and the slots l1 in the bed permit thebed to be adjusted lengthwise, thus-providing a vertical and a lateral adjustment of the bed. A A
vTo 4the bed 7` is attached what for convenienceA will be designated `as a carriage 12 which isfformed with a dovetailed groove `13 70 which receives the dovetailed ton ue of the I face of the carriage is formed with .a stud orl pintle f18.upon which is mounted a rotatable lock 19 formed with semi-circular slots 20 through lwhich pass bolts 21A whose threaded ends enter the carriage l2 so` to secure the 85 block to the carriage. This block has a dovotailedtongue 22 on one side upon which slides a two-part toolholderA `box 23, the members of said holder next to the block havingadovetailcd `groove receiving the v tongue of the block. The tool holder-is moved along the tongue by a threaded rod 24 working in a threaded bore 25A in theblock 19 and having i a swiveledeonnection to a Ilange 26 in the. tool holdersoAAthathby turning, the: :rod b`y95 A means of a-handle27 thetool holder may bea 1 moved back amlAfo-rthon `the ktongue .of the A l block. i The tool helder comprises the Atwof'7 members 28;',n-Athe1rueeting faces ,ofv Whichmre their-tides lo'l'tth'e. inner jiiicmbersyland the two l kmembers arelieldtogethcrbysultable meansiislo f'lorefl tance by 'sc rewsfywhich pass through l oneA V'nbei=. ntothevother and; screws 337A 'in Whic '1f and int' thef-v sides of the other-member. The two members thus form a clamp which holds the careffected by a screw 34 passing through alcap-j.
Yplate 35 which may be held to the two-part ox or tool holder so as to swing vby. a pivot-l bolt 36,Ivthe other end being formed with a slot 37 so as to engage with a holding bolt 38. The inner end of the screw 34 has secured to it, or bears against a plate 39 which bears against the end of the caiborundu'm sticker tool. This backing plate also serves to 'prevent the tool from being pressed back in its socket when in working contact with the surface of the wheel being ground, and holds it to its work.
Sometimes it is desired to present the grinding tool at an angle to the face of thev wheel being ground, for instance when it may be desired to slightly bevel or round the edge Yof the wheel, or for other purposes. This 25 can be effected by loosening the bolts 21 and' turning the block 19 so as to present the grinding tool at the angle desired and holding 1t there tightening the bolts.
In Fig. 3 of the drawing the device is shown in position for grinding the u per band wheel.` If, it be desired to grindpthe'lower wheel, the bolts 21 are'withdrawn and the block 19 turned so as to carry the working end ofthe tool to face the lower wheel when the bolts are re laced and the block locked in position. T e bolts may then be loosened andthe bed 7 lowered on the brackets until :the deviceis in position for 'grinding the lowerwheel; It will thus be observed that the device is always in positionf for grinding either Wheel by merely adjust,-- ing the device which can be quickly and easily effected. f
Between one wall of the dovetailed tongue to the bed 7 and corresponding lwall of the groove in the carriage 12, there is a fillingplate 40 against which bears the' screws 41, and between the dovetailed tongue.22 of the block-19 and the corresponding groove in the tool holder box 23, on one side, is a filling plate 42 a rainst which bears the screws 43.
,I have i ustrated and described with particularity the preferred construction of the various parts but it is obvious that changes can be made therein and essential features of the invention be employed.
Having described my invention and se forth its merits what vI claim is l. The combination with the brackets and the vertically adjustable vbed supported thereon, of the reciprocating carriage mounted upon the bed, means for moving the carriage lengthwise of the bed, a tool holder carrying a grinding tool and adjustable transversely to the travel of the carriage, and a lrevoluble support for the tool holder, said mounted4 upon the bed, means for movin i the carriage lengthwise of the bed, a too holder adjustable transversely to the travel of the carriage, a grinding tool carried by said holder, and means bearing against the rear of the tool for projecting said tool beyond its holder, substantially as described.
3. 'llie combination of thev bed formedv with a tongue and a longitudinally extending slot, a carriage formed with a groove to receive the tongue of the bed and having on one side an internally threaded nut i'itting in y the groove of the bed and on the opposite side a projecting stud, a feed screw passing tlirougi the nut, or the carriage, a grinding tool-holder mounted upon the stud projecting lroni the opposite side of the carriage, and Imeans for adjusting the tool holder transversely to the travel of the carriage, substantially as described.
4. The combination of the traveling carriage, the block invertible and revoluble thereon, a grinding tool holder a tongue ,and groove connection between the block and tool holder, and means for vertically adjusting the tool holder transversely to the travel of the carriage, substantially as described.
-5. The combination with the traveling carriage, ofa block revolubly mounted thereon, means for locking the block in various angularly disposed adjustments, a tool .holder mounted upon said block to slide vertically thereon transversely to the travel of the carriage, and means for sliding the toolliolder to adjust it on the carriage, substantially as described.
6. 'llie combination with the traveling carriage, of the revoluble tool holder adjustable transversely to the travel of the carriage and having a socket for a grinding tool, a grinding tool iittiiig in said socket, an adjustable plate in the socket for the end of the grinding tool to bear against, and means for moving said plate and grinding tool leiivtliwise of the soeketfin which the tool iits, substantially as described. b
7. The combination of the bed, the care riage mounted thereon, 'the irivertible ani-L revoluble block having a pintle connection with the carriage and formed with arc slots,
bolts passing through said slots and `entering the carriage, a tool holder having a tongue and groove connection with the block to permit it to be adjusted vertically and 'transversely to the travel of the carriage, and an adjusting screw connected with a )art of the tool holder, and o )erating yin sai block for adjusting the tooll holder, substantially as described.
8. 'lhe combination of the vertically adjustable bed, the carriage mounted to t-Irev'el In testimony whereof I alix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
