Application filed January 10, 19M. Serial No. 811,454.
This invention relates to clanips and more particularly to that type of deviceafor selo cbuing or holding articles upon machine e s. i
The object of the invention is to ,provide a simple indV efficient device of thie chaff acter which may be readilyv attached to the bed plate of the drill press planer or other similar machines so that the material being operated upon may be conveniently held in position.
Further objects ol the invention will appear es the following description is read in connection with the accompanying. drawing, which forms n part of this application, end in which Fi ure 1 is n side elevation of the device 225 attac ied to the fragment of a bed plate of a machine Ashowing a piece of work intrposed between the bed' plate and the jaw of theclemp. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. fio 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section ori-the linegl-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the ,draw-1 ing, 1 represents the bed plate of the4 ma- 35 chine which is provided with'the usuel dovetail groove 2. Arranged to be slidably mounted in the groove is the heed 3 of an adjusting bolt 4 which is. threaded to receive a retaining nut 5. @lis bolt passes e0 through elongitudinel slot 6 formed lin the inw 7 which is arranged, as willbe heref inafter described, to co-ect with the bed plete, the hed plate acting as one jaw, to clamp the material in position to be 'worked eli on'. (lne end of the jwhaefeecured thereto a pair of arms8 between which is pivotellyJr mounted a nut 9 through which the clamp-,2; ing screw 10 passes. his clamping screw 7 is squared upon. its upper end to receive ad* operating handle 11 and is swiveled at ite 5v lower end into a. nut or head 12 which is also arranged to slide in the groove 2 of,`
the .bed pletemflhe screw llrotateeffreely 1n the nut 12 and the mit 9 is freely pivotedy between the erms 8 so `es to permitl any 5f@ angular osition of the jaw 7. llt will be noticed t at both ofthe nnte 3 and 12 are' polygonal soas to be engaged by the walls of the groove to prevent turning withthe bolts. v so What is claimed is:- 1. In a clamp, va jaw member having e longitudinal slot, a'nut swiveled in one end of the jaw member, an adjusting Screw pass ing therethrough, a bolt yhaving a not e5 threaded thereon, said last-named bolt he ing adjustable'in the slot toward 'ond away from the screw and means for connecting the" screw and bolt to the bed plete of the ma chine. 7U 2. ln combination, a. bed plete having aY dove-tail groove therein, e. screw having an lintegral polygonal head slidahly mounted in the groove, -an adjusting nut threaded onto the bolt, a jew provided with e 1ongi- 'l5 tudinnl 'slot to receive said bolt, e. nut
,swiveled in the jaw at one end thereof,y a
Screw having. a polygonal nut swiveled upon f one' end thereof and arrangedftoslide Within the groove, said `screw bein threaded in the 8o nutand having relative a jnstment toward: and awav from thebolt and means for op erating the screw'. 1 ,"'L-v,...
In testimony' whereof I affix my signo-f ture in preeenoe of two witnesses. AUGUST ERMAN.
