pensive folding cot and bath tub cabinet, designed particularly -for use in Pullman and similar cars, and other places where the space is limited.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cabinet of this character, which may be arranged in the form of a wardrobe, or other article of furniture, and which will present an ornamental appearance and occupy but a comparatively small amount of space, when the part-s are folded and the cabinet is closed.
-Another object of theI invention is to provide a foldable bath tub adapted to be concealed within the cabinet, and capable of being arranged in a horizontal position for use, and adapted to receive a mattress support to form a cot.
The invention also has for its object to provide means for enabling the bath tub to be also used for vapor baths, and to afford, When folded, a compartment for holding various articles.

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken longitudinally of the bath tub, and showing the parts arranged for a vapor bath. Fig. 3 is a perspective view, the bath tub being folded within the cabinet, and the bottom door of the frame of the bath tub being open. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation.

' 1 designates a cabinet, whicli, when closed,
presents the appearance of a wardrobe, and
whichl may be constructed of any suitable material to adapt it for use withinaPullman or similar car, or for use within an apartment of a small house, flat, or other place where the space is limited. The cabinet is preferably divided by an intermediate vertical partition 2, which is spaced from the end wall 3, to form a compartment 4. The compartment 4 is adapted to receive a bath tub 5, and the space between the partition' 2 and the other end wall 6, may be utilized in any desired manner. In the accompanying drawings, the upper portion of this space forms a locker, and is closed by a door 7, and the lower portion receives a series of drawers 8.

The bath tub, which is adapted to be arranged in a horizontal position for use, as illustrated in Figs. l and 2 of the drawings, is provided with a supporting frame 9, and is 'connected at'its inner end with the back Wall of the compartment 4 by means of hinges 10, located at the upper edge of the inner end of the bath tub, and adapted to permit the latter to swing upwardly and fold within the cabinet, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
The frame 9 of the bath tub consists of side and end walls, and is provided with a bottom door 1l, which is arranged at thezfront of the cabinet, when the bath tub is. folded, and which,v when open, is adapted to afford access to the interior of the frame 9.
The bath tub, which is of the usual configuration, has its bottom portion spaced from the sides of the frame 9, and the door 11, the space being adapted for holding various articles, such as the bed clothing of the cot, hereinafter described. The door 11 is hinged at one of its side edges, and is provided at the free edge with suitable means for securing it in its closed position.
dien the bath tub is folded within the compartment 4, vit occupies the upper portion thereof, and a lower compartment or space is thereby provided for holding various articles, which are removed prior to swinging the bath tub downward for use. A door 12 is hinged to the `front edge of the end wall 3, for closing the compartment 4, when the bath tub is folded within the same.
The `cabinet is provided with counterbalancing mechanism for enabling the'bath tub to be conveniently swung upwardly and downwardly. This mechanism comprises a pair of flexible connections 13, connected to the bath tub at the upper edges of the sides at points between the ends thereof, and they extend over guide pulleys 14, mounted in suitable openings of the rear wall of the compartment 4. The other ends of the flexible connections are secured to vertically slidable wei hts 15, which are mounted in suitable gui es 16, of the rear wall of the cabinet. The guides are located on the exterior of the rear wall, and consist preferably of vertical bars 17, and strips or iianges, which project inwardly to confine the weights between the bars. The weights are provided with upper and lower anti-friction wheels 18, and they have slots 20 extending downwardly from the upper ends of the weights, and adapted to receive the flexible connections, whereby the weights, when raised, project above the iiexible connections, as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings.
Within the cabinet is arranged means for supplying hot and cold water to the bath tub. This means may consist of a pair of faucets 21, located above the inner end of the bath tub, when the latter is in a horizontal position, and designed to be connected' with suitable surface pipes (not shown). The spigots or faucets project into the bath tub, when the latter is folded, and they do not interfere with the folding of the bath tub within the cabinet.
The bath tub is provided at the bottom, adjacent to its inner end, with an outlet, which is connected with a waste pipe 22, by a separable pipe connection, composed of two sections or members 23 and 24. The section or member 23, which is approximately L-shaped, extends downwardly from the bottom of the bath tub, and has a lower horizontal portion, which terminates in a nipple 25. The other section or member 24 is in the form of an elbow coupling, and extends upwardly from the floor, and is provided with an upper horizontal portion, having a socket 26 to receive the nipple. The nipple is carried automatically into and out of engagement with the socket, and a shoulder 27 is formed at the inner end of the nipple, and is adapted to provide a convenient seat for a packin if found desirable. The nipple and the soc et are tapered to form a tight connection, and as it is impossible for the sections or member 0f the separable pipe connection to become disconnected, when the bath tub is in a horizontal position, there will be no danger of leakage from such a cause. The waste pipe 22 is connected with the bottom of a trap 28, which has an outlet pipe 29, and which is also provided with a removableA cap 30, located above the floor. The trap is also provided at its upper end with a projecting supporting flange 31, whichv is adapted to rest upon the fioor,.as clearly shown in Fig. 2v of the drawings.
The bath tub is adapted' to receive a mattress support 32, consisting of a plurality of longitudinally disposed slats 33, which are connected by transverse bars 34. The transverse bars 34 areangularly bent at their terminals to form shoulders 35 and hooks 36, for engaging the upper edges of the sides of the bath tub. The shoulders are `arranged at the inner faces of the sides of the bath tub, and hold the mattress support 32 against lateral movement. A mattress of the ordinary construction is adapted to be placed on the mattress support, which, with the bathy tub, forms a convenient cot. rlhe mattress support, with the exception of the hooks, lies within the bath tub, so as not to inter'- fere with the folding of the same within the cabinet. The bending of the terminals of the transverse connecting bars not only forms,
the said shoulders 35, but also depresses the slats in the position described. The longitudinal slats, while being located wholly within the bath tub, have their upper faces arranged close to the upper edges of the said bath tub to permit a mattress to rest upon both the up er edges of the tub and the support, where y the latter is relieved of excessive strain. p
A canopy 37 may be arranged over the bath tub, as shown in Fig. 2, for furnishing a vapor bath, and the vapor may be supplied in any suitable manner. The canopy 37, which is designed to be constructed of suitable waterproof material, consists of side walls 38` an outer end wall 3), and a horizontal top 40. The side and end walls are vcrtical, and extend downward to within a short dstance of the floor. The sides also extend from the outerend wall to a point within the compartment 4, and the top wall extends substantially to the rear wall.
The canopy is provided with an oblong supporting frame composed of arallel sides 41, .and a connecting outer en portion 42. The inner terminals of the sides are bent downward to form engaging portions or hooks 43, which fit in eyes 44. The eyes 44 are provided with attachment i'ianges or ortions, which are secured to the rear wall of the compartment 4. The combination of a cabinet having a compartment and provided in the rear wall thereof with openings, pulleys mounted in the openings, a bath tub foldable within the compartment, guides arranged on the exterior of the rear wall ofthe compartment and extending above the pulleys, flexible connections arranged on the pulleys and connected to the tub, and Weights slidable in the guides and attached at their lower portions to the iiexible connections, said Weights being provided in their u per portions with slots receiving the iiexib e connections vand permitting the Weights to extend above the pulleys.
