Description

' GUSPIDOR.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 7, 1908.

UNITED STATES DAVID L. HARDEN, OF NEWAYGO, MICHIGAN. v
CUSPIDOR.
Specification "01. Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 15, 1908.
Application filed April 7, 1908. Serial No. 425,747.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID L. HARDEN, a citizen of the United waygo, in the county of Newaygo and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspidors and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
same, reference being clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference 'marked thereon, which form a part.
of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in folding spittoons and com{ prises essentially a receptacle of simple construction and made so as to fold into a compact form and designed to contain preferably an absorbent material adapted to be disinfected, and comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully de scribed and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view showing the spittoon opened up in readiness for use. Fig. 2 is a detail view showing it closed or folded. Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the manner of reinforcing the wall of the receptacle. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the blank of paper or other material out of which the receptacle is made, and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail perspective view showing a slight modification of the reinforcing wire.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates' a receptacle made of a blank of paper or other suitable material dpsigned to be folded along the scored lines, designated by letter BB in Fig. 40f the drawings, forming flaps when the box is opened out assuming the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Reinforcing wires, designated by letter D, are provided each of which is inclined toform a coil D adapted to fit over. the flaps of the box to States, residing at Ne lBI QlCl the same in the manner disclosed in 1g. 1.
In Fig. 5 of the drawings, I have shown "a slight modification of the reinforcing wire, designated by letter E, in which there are two loops E with theshank portion of the Wire extending over the upper edge of the side walls of the box instead of the inner shank portion bearing on the outside of the box as shown in Fig. 1.
When the box is closed or folded,.as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, it will be reduced to a compact form convenient for storage or carrying about in a pocket and may be readily opened out for ready use.
It is my purpose preferably to place an absorbent material, suitably disinfected in the receptacle and which may be destroyed with the receptacle Without the necessity of cleansing the latter when using it over and over again asis commonly done with the ordinary s ittoon.
What claim to be new is I 1. A collapsible s ittoon made of a single sheet of material aving flaps which are adapted to overlap one another agalnst the sides of ,the rece tacle, resilient wires each bent to form a p urality of coils designed to hold the folded flaps against ,the sides of the receptacle, the ends of the wire extending in op osite directions, as set forth.
4 2. A collapsible s ittoon made of a single sheet of material aving fia s which are adapted to overlap one anot er and fold against the sides of the rece tacle, resilient wires each bent to form a p urality of coils designed to hold the folded flaps against the bearing against 1; e inner surface of the walls of the receptacle and in other, as set forth.
