Description

Etaient yifire.
D. L. CADY, OF MASON. MICHIGAN.
Laim Pawn: N. 89,850', dazed .May 11, 1869.
Be it known that I, D. L. GABY, of Mason, Ingham county, Michigan, have invented a new and improved Sheep-Sheai-Iig Table; and I do hereby declare that the following is a ful, clear, and exact description thereof, which Will enable others to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1, in the drav'ings, represents my inventionr in perspective, the t. le being arranged ready for the sheep to te sheared.
Figure 2 shows the table airanged ready ter the sheep to be tagged A This invention has for its object to furnish a simple and effective means foi` securing a sheep upon a suitable table, in a manner enabling the Shearer to oper. ate advantageously, While the position ot' the sheep is easy, and danger of teariig the fleece is avoided.
This invention has also for its object to furnish a simple means for securing a sheep in a position upon the table, .to allow tags to be readily removed from it.
I construct and use my invention in the following manner:
I first make a strong table, supported by four legs, a a.
The top consists of two double leaves, B B', the two inner ones, B' E', being hinged to a board, C', which is secured to the top ofthe table, in the middle there` of. The outer leaves B B are hollowed ont, as shown in the drawings, to admit the workman closer to his work.
The sheep is laid upon the table, onits side, and to secure it, two of its legs, which lie under, or all of them, are put through loops C O, in the straps D D, which extend up through the moitises F F, in the tableleaves B B.
The lower ends of the straps are secured to the treadles G G, which are pivoted to the legs of the table, and are provided with pistes H H, which engage with notched plates H" H', or. the table-legs.
Placing the treadles in the lowest notches they can be got, holds the sheeps legs close to the table, and it cannot more,
When the sheep is half sheared, it must be turned over, its legs being secured in the loops C" C in the same manner as in the first instance.
Fig. 2, in the drawings, shows the table arranged for tagging sheep.
The inner leaves B' B are, turned up rather more than half way to a perpendicular.
The leaves B B serve to brace the inner ones, and mustbe secured in such a position as they are desired to remain in, by a hook, or otherwise.
The sheep is placed upon its back in the trough, and its hind legs are secured in the loops, and held by the treadles G G, in the manner hereinbefore shown.
The relative sizes ofthe leaves of the table, as well as the size of the table itself, will be comprehended by taking into consideration the uses for which they are respectively designed.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What'I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The double learesB B', having mortises F F, the
middle board C', straps D D, having loops C C, the
levers Gr G, having plates H, and the notched plates 1I', on the legs a a,.al1 made to operate substantially as and for the purpose herein specified.
