Description

PATENTED SEPT. 1
LE ROY HILL.
LOOSE LEAF BINDER.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 20, 1907.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LE ROY HILL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO JONES IMPROVED LOOSE LEAF SPECIALTY COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
' LOOSE-LEAF BINDER.
Patented Sept. '1, 1908.
Application filed November 20, 1907. Serial No. 402,960.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LE ROY HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing'at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Loose-Leaf Binders, of which the following is aspecification. v
My Invention relates particularly to transferbinders and my primary object is to provide improved and simplified means for the adjustment of the upper clamping-bar upon posts is well understood, and need not be dethe posts of the binder.
The invention is illustrated in its preferred embodimentin the accompanying drawing,
in which Figure 1 represents a-broken perspective view of a transfer binder constructed in .accordance with my invention, Fig. 2, a broken sectional view taken as indicated at line2 of Fig. 1 Fig. 3, a broken sectional view taken as indicated at line 3 of Figs. 2 and 4 and Fig. 4, a broken sectional view taken as indicated at line 4 of Fig. 3.
In the construction illustrated, A, A represent the upper and lower cover-sections, respectively, of a binder; B, B upper and lower clamping-bars flexibly connected, respectively, with the upper and lower'coversections; C, C, sectionally-constructed binding-posts rigidly'connected with the lower clamping-bar and extending freely through perforations provided in the upper clampingar near the ends thereof; and D, D, a pair of clamping-screws having threaded connection with the end portions of the upperclamping-bar and bearing at their inner ends "against the binding-posts O, O.
The clamping-bars may be of any suitable construction. The upper clamping-bar is preferably of tubular or hollow construction, )eing fitted at its ends with inserted plugs b secured in place by pins 6. The plugs b are provided with threaded perforations which extend longitudinally of the bar Band re-- ceive the clamping-screws D, D .v The lower clamping-bar projects somewhat beyond the ends of the lower bar. ably oppositely threaded, this arrangement ends of the upper clamping-bar and the heads (1 of the clamping-screws bear against the outer ends of the plugs b and lie above the pro jecting ends of the lower bar and inside the plane of longitudinal edges 'of the cover-sections, the outer end-surfaces of the heads of the screws being substantially flush with the The screws are preferfacilitating the manipulation of the screws. The construction of the sectional bindingto the purpose.
What I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.
In a binder, the combination with a lower clamping-bar and binding-posts rising therefrom, of a tubular upper clamping-bar having perforations rece ving said posts, the ends of the upper clamping-bar lying some distanoe within the planes of the longitudinal edges of the cover-sections, end-plugs in said upper cl amping-bar having threaded perfora tions, and clamping-screws extending through said perforations and engaging said posts and having heads lying substantially inside the planes of the longitudinal edges of said cover-sections.
LE ROY HILL.
