UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER T. FLINGr, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI.
BURNER.
Another' object yis to provide a gas burner comprising a heating chamber having a perfoi-ated top, a series of radial ribs and a belllike deflector secured to the top for radiating the heat developed by the burner.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a central vertical section taken through a gas burner made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the burner with the bell-shaped deflector removed.
Referring to the drawing for a more specific description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the base of the burner which, as shown, is circular in form and provided with a central boss 2 provided with a screw threaded opening 3 therein which communicates with the interior of the burner. An annular rib 4 is formed upon the upper side of the base 1 so that a shoulder 5 is formed, said shoulder extending from the rib 4 to the periphery of the base.
The upper member of the burner comprises a circular upper wall 6 provided with a series of radially -disposed heat retaining ribs 7 and Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led September 26, 1907.

Serial No. 394,762.
between the ribs 7 a series of perforations 8 are provided, said perforations forming gas Jets.
shaped deflector 1.0, said deflector being se cured upon the upper member 6 by means of a bolt 11 passing through the aperture 12 in the upper member 6 and through the bottom 13 of the bell. The upper member 6 is provided with an annular flange 14, the lower edge of which is seated upon the shoulder 5 outside the rib 4, thus forming a heating chamber 15 between the base 1 and the upper inner wall of the upper member 6.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that the heat developed by the burner is deflected outwardly by the bell 10. My invention is of simple construction, is composed of few parts, can be manufactured at slight cost and is very reliable and efficient in use.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
The herein described gas burner comprising a base member having an annular shoulder and a rib adjacent said shoulder, an upper memberhaving a flange seated on the shoulder of the base member, said upper member having a series of radially disposed ribs upon its outer' face and perforations between the ribs, and a bell-shaped deflector secured to the upper member and having upwardly, outwardly inclined walls.
In testimony whereof I afIiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VALTER T. FLING.
