ATTACHMENT FOR GARMENTS.
Patented Aug. 11, 1908.
Application filed April 2, 1906, Serial No. 309,474. Renewed July 31, 1907. Serial No. 386,363.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ FERDINAND DEINER, of New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, tain new and useful Improvements in Attaclnnents for Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful attachments for garments.
The invention has for its object the production of a simple and inexpensive device which can be attached to a vest, shirt or the like to prevent the same from riding up upon the person.
A further object is to provide a suitable connection between the shirt, or vest and the trousers, whereby the latter may be sup ported and suspenders of the ordinary type dispensed with.
A further object is to provide a device of the character described which can be readily and quickly connected or disconnected with the garments to which the same is to be applied.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims. f
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a face view illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the buckle. Fig. 4 is a similar view of a modified form of buckle. Figs. 5 and 6 are views illustrating the application of my invention to a vest and a shirt, respectively, the vest being shown as turned inside out.
Referring to the drawing, 10 designates a buckle provided with one or more tabs 11, similar to the ordinary suspender tabs and having button holes for ready attachment to buttons 12 on the trousers. A ribbon or stri 13 is adjustably mounted in buckle 10, the latter being provided with a raised portion 14 over which said ribbon or strip is passed, said ribbon being clamped in any adjusted position by means of a hinged or pivoted piece 15 having an open space which springs over upon the raised portion 14. To the upper end of ribbon or strip 13 is secured a buckle 16 provided with horizontally arranged pivoted prongs 1 7, which, when in the closed position, are held from displacement by a pivoted shield 18. Said shield is preferably provided with one or more protuberances 19 which spring into depressions 20 formed in the adjacent face of the buckle body.
have invented cer- In practice, the ribbon or strip 13 is adjusted to the desired length, and the prongs of buckle 16 are passed through the lining of the vest and secured under the shield 18. The tabs 11 are then secured to the trousers in the well known manner.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a slight modification of the buckle 16 which consists in providing the prongs 17 with an offset portion 21, this form being particularly designed for connection with shirts or other similar garments. When this form is employed the shirt is preferably provided with eyelets 22 through which the prongs 17 extend, the offset portions permitting the buckle to rest closely against the outside of the shirt.
From the foregoing it will be noted that my improved attachment is particularly effective in holding down the vest, shirt, or other garment to which it is attached, whereby wrinkling or riding up of said garments is prevented, and the garments always present a neat, well fitting appearance. It is also obvious that the device may also be substituted for the ordinary suspender to support the trousers, it only being necessary to duplicate the device, '11. 6. provide one for each side at the front, and one at the middle of the back, and they may all be attached either to the vest, shirt or other garment. It will be particularly observed that the attachment may be readily and quickly attached to and detached from a garment, and that either form of the buckles described for use in attaching to the garment may be substituted, one for the other, at W1 I claim as my invention 1. An attachment for garments comprising a buckle formed of a fiat plate provided at one end with pivotally supported prongs, and a shield having one end pivoted to the other end of said plate opposite said prongs and adapted to slide over the ends of said prongs, the contiguous faces of said plate and shield being provided with frictional means to prevent accidental displacement of said shield when placed over the ends of said prongs.
2. An attachment for ing a buckle formed of a flat plate provided at one end with pivotally supported prongs, and a shield having one end pivoted to the other, end of said plate opposite said prongs and adapted to slide over the ends of said prongs, said shield being provided with progarments comprisand shield being provided With frictional means to prevent accidental displacement of said shield When placed over the ends of said 15 prongs.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses.
