HoLs'rER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led March 11, 1907. Serial No. 361,714.
ELDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holsters, of which the following is a specification. v
Thisinvention relates to improvements in holsters, and the object is to provide an improved construction of woven fabric holster which may be closed to protect the pistol when the latter is not desired for use, and which may be quickly and readily opened to permit ready access to the pistol when necessary. f
With the above object in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, particularly pointed out in the claims, and clearly illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a View of one form of holster constructed in accordance with my invention, the pistol being shown in position therein Fig. 2, a view of a slightly different form of holster, and Fig. 3, a view showing the gaps of the holster shown in Fig. 2, turned ack.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, 1 designates the holster formed of a multi-ply woven fabric similar to that shown and described in Letters Patent Number 787,852, dated April 18th, 1905.
As shown, the holster is woven -in two diameters, the smaller of which is closed at its outer end by the metal tip 2, which is formed with a loop 3 to receive the usual retaining cord. This metal tip forms a very neat and satisfactory device for closing the smaller end of the' holster, there being no securing means therefor visible from the exterior of the holster, and, it is provided With an opening for drainage, The holster shown in Fig. 1 is not provided with a closing llap, but adjacent to its open end, near its side edges, carries snap fasteners 4 whereby, When the revolver is in position therein, said open end may be closed on each side thereof. Thus a holster is provided in which the pistol is especially easy of access. When the pistol is likely to be sought quickly or frequently,
respective the holster is not closed by the fasteners, but when on the march, where itis desirable to protect it from thev weather, the fasteners are snapped together, bringing the front and rear walls of the holster in contact on each -side of the butt.
In the holster shown in Fig. 2, the two side Walls, which in Fig. l are turned on the inside at the open end of the holster, are turned outward to form a continuation of the body portion, and are detachably connected at the upper corner by a snap fastener 5. This leaves the holster with an absolutely smooth interior, with no possible projection to catch upon and delay the withdrawing of the pistol. A When the pistol is likely to be called into use, the two extended side walls are disconnected and turned down on each side of the body portion of the holster, as shown in Fig. 3, but on the march, they are turned up- Ward` and secured together bymeans of the snap-fastener, thus inclosing all but the butt ofthe pistol.
The holster shown in Fig. 1 is secured along one edge of the larger portion by rivets, While that shown in Fig. 2 is secured by stitching. The stitching forms a preferable construction, as it is neater in appearance and makes a lighter holster by the elimination of rivets. However, both of the two holsters may be secured by riveting or by stitching.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. A pistol holster comprising a exible substantially tubular body open at one edge to permit insertion and withdrawal of the pistol and provided at said opening with coperatingl fastening members for detach- Patented July 28, 1908.

In testimonT whereof I aflix my signature 1n presence of two Witnesses.
