Description

PATENTED JULY 14, 1908 LE. SNEVELY.
' DUST BRUSH.
APPLIUATION FILED NOW 17, 1906.
JAMES E. SNEVELY, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
DUST-BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 14, 1908.
Application filed November 17, 1906. Serial No. 343,868.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES E; SNEVELY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of Californi a, have invented a certain new and Improved Dust-Brush, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new article of manufacture, comprising a brush provided with a head having a longitudinal opening therein. The feathers are secured to the head and lie substantially parallel to and longitudinally of the head, and the handle lies axially within the feathers and the head.
- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my improved brush. Fig. 2 is a broken section showing a use of my invention after the brush package is broken and the brush assembled for use.
1 represents the brush head.
2 are the feathers secured to the head substantially parallel to and longitudinal thereof. 3 is the longitudinal or axial opening in the head. i
6 is the carton inclosing the brush, provided with heads 7.
The object of my invention is to rovide, as a new article of manufacture, a rush in which the handle is carried centrally within the mass of feathers constituting the brush. By my invention the brush is packed within about one-half the space hithertorequired for packing brushes. Moreover, the whole brush is adapted for packing in a carton and rendered moth-proof, a highly desirable object in the manufacture and transportation of feather brushes.
It has been customary heretofore in some cases to pack feather dusters with the handle separate from the head and lying along-side of it. If the handle is loose'within the wrapper it is liable to become displaced and if it is tied to the head the package is made of irregularshape and occupies an undue amount of space and in either case the peculiar shape of t e bundle formed causes breakage of the Wraipper in a great many instances, resulting in amage to the goods and trouble in shipment. My invention obviates these difficulties. by providing a compact substantially cylindrical body for packing. It has no irregularities or protuberances and therefore has no tendency to burst its package and can also be conveniently packed in a minimum amount of space.
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a brush comprising a head having a longitudinal opening, feathers secured to the head lying substantially parallel to and longitudinally of the head, and a handle lying axially within the feathers and head.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a brushhead, a handle secured to the head, and flexible brush material secured to the head and enveloping the handle.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a brushhead, flexible brush material secured to the head, and a handle lying within the brush material and secured to the head.
'4. As a new article of manufacture, a brush R. R. FORTNEY, EMMA BURROWS.
