UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEFFREY T. FERRES, OF ANDERSON. INDIANA.
BOTTLE-PACKINGA WRAPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 515,668, dated February 27, 1894.
Application tiled October 9,1893. Serial No. 487.639. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, JEFFREY T. FERRES, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Anderson, in the county of Madison and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Packing Wrappers, of which the following is a specication.
The various features of my invention are fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bottle Wrapper bent in form for use. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a blank before bending. Fig. 3 is a modification of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a modification of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a modification of Fig. 4.
The object of the invention is to provide a cheap, durable and elastic bottle Wrapper; it is made preferably of wood veneer; stid straw board may be employed. The veneer is scored or creased in irregular lines, preferably waving or serpentine.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 2 represents a plan View of a blank having the plain ends a, b. c represents scored serpentine lines, which when bent form a box or inclosure in which the article to be packed is incased. In Figs. l and 2 there are four scored lines which make a rectilinear wrapper or box. The wrapper will be just as many sided as there are scored lines placed on the blank, as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4. By scoring the blank in irregular lines and bending it over irregular or wavy sides are formed; thus, the parts v.' project, and the parts la .are drawn in; and this is true of the parts Il and 7c in Figs. 3 and 4. This makes an elastic side so that bottles or jars may be packed in a box and shipped without any danger of breakage. The ends o., b, may overlap and be fastened by clips, stitching, or any suitable manner, or not fastened at all when they are to be packed at once in a box.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a modification Where the scar-fed or scored lines are regular angle lines instead of irreguiar wavy lines, and it is an inferior modification.
I do not Wish to limit myself to the irregular serpentine lines except in the clauses of the claim where the same is made a specic element.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- 1. A wrapper made from veneer, or strawboard, scored in irregular lines, and adapted to be bent around a package, substantially as described.
2. A wrapper made from Veneer or strawboard, scored in irregular wavy lines,v and adapted to be bent around a package, substantially as specied.
3. A Wrapper made from veneer or strawboard, scored in irregular lines, bent into form, and the ends fastened together toform a polygonally sided wrapper, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JEFFREY T. FERRES.
