1 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM H. SIPPEL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a curtain pole, and the primary object of my invention is, to provide simple and effective means for detachably holding curtains or drapery upon a pole, without the use of rings, pins or devices that will tend to injure a curtain pole and the curtains suspended therefrom.
A further object of my invention is to provide a novel curtain fastener that can be easily and quickly mani ulated to secure curtains to a pole, the fastener being designed, whereby the curtains can be easily arranged prior to securing the same to a curtain pole.
With the above and other objects in view, which will readily appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be presently described and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims. I
Referring to the drawing forming part of this specification Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pole constructed in accordance with my invention, and. partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same partly in elevation. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of a pole and Fig. 4 is aperspective view of a detachable cap or ornamentation.
In the accompanying drawings 1 designates a pole constructed of wood or metal. This pole is provided with a longitudinal groove 2 extending approximately from one end thereof to the other. The pole 1 at one end of the groove 2 is formed with a recess 3 for the eyelet end 4 of a rod 5, said rod being adapted to lie within said groove and retain the curtains or drapery in engagement with said pole. The eyelet end 4 of the said rod 5 is retained within arecess 3 by a rivet or screw 6 mounted in said pole, while the opposite end of said rod is bent outwardly and provided with a tuberous enlargement or knob 7.
One end of the pole is provided with a fixed cap or ornamentation 8, and the opposite end is provided with a detachable cap or ornamentation 9. The cap or ornamentation 9 is provided with a sleeve 10 adapted to fit upon the end of a ole 1. This sleeve 10 is provided with a ayonet joint slot 11 adapted to receive the bent end ofthe rod 5 anld retain said rod in the groove 2 of the po e 1.
The pivoted rod 5 can be swung outwardly and curtains arranged or draped upon the same. The rod can then be swung into the groove and the cap 9 placed upon the end of the pole 1, to lock said rod in position.
It is thought that my invention will be fully understood from the above description, and I reserve the right to make such changes in the construction of my invention, as are permissible by the appended claims.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new, is;
1. The combination of a curtain 'pole having a groove formed therein, said pole having a recess formed therein at one end of said groove, a rod pivotally mounted in the recess of said pole, said rod having a bent end, ornamental caps carried by the ends of said pole, one of said caps comprising a sleeve having a bayonet joint slot formed therein whereby the said cap will retain said rod in said groove, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a curtain pole having a groove formed therein, a rod pivotally mounted at one end of said groove and hav ing a bent end, ornamental caps carried by the ends of said pole, one of said caps comprising a sleeve having a bayonet joint slot formed therein to receive the bent end of said rod.
3. The combination with a curtain pole provided with a groove, a rod pivotally mounted in said groove and having a bent end, and means shiftably mounted upon the pole and engaging with the bent end of the rod for retaining the latter within said groove.
