KINEMATOGRAPH AND .LIKE APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 23, 19os.
Application filed July 23, 1907. Serial No. 385,183.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, ARCADE MALLET, a citizen of France, residing at Paris, in the said Republic, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Kineniatographs and Like Apparatus, (for which a French patent, No. 371,008 of October 31, 1905, has been obtained and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The present invention has for its object a mechanical device for cutting the strips of films employed in kinematographs, instantly, when desired.
The drawing annexed to the present specification shows by way of example a mechanical device in accordance with the present invention. 7
In'this drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation of the arrangement as a whole with. the covers of the boxes removed. Fig.2 is a corres onding side elevation. partia sectional front elevation on a larger scale representing the device in the open position. Fig. 4 is a corresponding elevation in the closed position.
The same reference, numerals representthe same elements in the various figures.
In this system the film spools 1 and 2 (Fig. 1) are respectively inclosed in hermetically closed boxes 3, 4, which are fixed at their bottom to the spindle of each of the spools,
which are carried in the ordinary manner.
Each of the boxes 3, 4, terminates at the place at which the film leaves it in a nozzle 5 constituting a sort of cock casing, in which i a plug 6, 6','is mounted to turn this plugis provided throughout its entire length with a slot 7 serving for the passage of the film which is wound in the ordinary manner upon the various driving rollers 8 for passing from one spool to the-other.
Of the two plugs 6, 6-, the plug 6 forms one or is connected with a toothed pinion 9 meshing with a sector 10 mounted upon a lever 11 Fig. 3 is a,
pivoted at 12 and connected at its free extremity 13 with a rod 14 the length of which is adjustable at will, its other extremity being mounted upon a wheel or sector 15 fixed upon the spindle of the plug 6. Over this wheel a chain or cord 16 passes; by means of this it may be caused to rotate and to act upon-the sector 10, the pinion 9 and the plug 6 by means of the rod 14. The slots 7 in the plugs 6, 6 are formed with a sharp edge so that by rotating the plugs by displacing the chain 16, the film is out simultaneously at 6 and 6, thus protecting each of the spools 1 and 2 inclosed in the boxes 3, 4 from fire. This is the arrangement rendering it possible to cut the band .of film 17 instantaneouslywhere it enters each of the boxes 3 and 4.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be carried out, I declare that whatl claim is:
1. In a mechanical device for cutting the strip of film employed in kinematographs In testimony whereof, I have signed my" name to this specification in. the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' I ARCADE MALLET.
