ALFRED ANDERSON, OF MINNEAPOLIS,MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH TO GEORGE C. HARPER AND ONE-FOURTH TO NELS J. OLSON, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, AND ONE-FOURTH TO ASAHEL G. WEDGE, OF DETROIT, MINNESOTA.
LADYS WORK-B OX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 9, 1908.
Application filed June 29, 1907. Serial No. 381,521.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ladies I/Vork-Boxes, of which the following is a specincation.
This invention relates to ladies workboxes, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a box having a cushion therein for needles and pins and a number of spindles rising from the bottom ofthe box for spools of thread, while at one end of the box aneedle threader and thread cutter is disposed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a ladies box of simple construction in which simple and efiicient means are pro vided for threading a needle and severing the thread.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in whichz' Figure l is a perspective view of a ladies7 work box made in accordance with my invention and showing the cover open. Fig. 2 is a detail, plan view showing the operation of the needle threader. Fig. 3 is an end elei vation of the work box.
Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the nu meral 1 designates the box body and 2 is the cover thereof, said box and cover being connected by hinges 3. A cushion 4 for holding needles and pins is provided in one end of the box l and a series of spindles 5 secured to the bottom of the box serve to hold spools 6 of thread in place thereon. A thread guide 7 consisting of a wire loop is secured to one side of the box, and a needle threader and thread cutter are secured to one end of the box and adapted to nt in a recess and cut away portion 8 in the cover 2 when said cover is closed.
The needle threader consists of the guide member 9 consisting of two parallel strands of wire lying side by side and having the doubled end 10 bent or deiiected to one side, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The guide member 9 is secured in a keeper 11 connected by pins or screws 12 to one end of the box 1. A guide hook 13 provided with a flattened hook end 14 is secured in the keeper 11. A thread cutter 15 comprising a i'lat metal plate having a V-shaped cutting edge 16 is secured in one end of the box 1 near the keeper 11.
To thread the needle with my threader the needle 17 is placed against the upper edge 18 of the box 1 with the eye disposed horizontally, and the needle is pushed up against the guide member 9, and moved toward the hook 13 until said hook passes through the eye of the needle. The thread 19 is doubled around the hook 14 and the needle is then moved oi the hook to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a ladys work box made in accordance with my invention is very simple in construction and is very convenient, owing to the 'fact that a number of spools of thread may be held in place therein and a needle may be readily threaded and the thread cut whenever required.
I-Iaving thus described the invention, Awhat I claim is:l
A ladys work box comprising a box body having a cushion therein for needles and pins, a series of spool spindles projecting from the bottom of the box, a thread cutter, and a needle threader, said needle threader comprising a guide member and thread hook, said parts being secured to the inner side of one end of the box, the upper edge of the box serving as a guide for the needle in threading the same, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I a'Hix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED ANDERSON.
