This invention relates to sewing hits or cabinets, and aims to provide a novel form I of cabinet whereinspools of cotton may be supported in position so that the cotton may be readily removed from the spools without danger of the cotton tangling.

An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character embodying an upper compartment to retain the spools of cotton, and a lower compartment to contain scissors, pin cushion, needles, thimble and other articles used in sewing, so that a person may have easy access thereto. 1 2 A further object of the invention is to provide means adjacent to the spools, so that the cotton thread maybe readily out without the necessity of unwinding great lengths of the cotton, which often happens when the cotton or thread is broken. With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

40 device comprises a body portion indicated generally by the reference character 5, the same being provided with a sloping front wall 6 that is .cut away defining an opening which is normally closed by the hinged closure 7.

4 The rear Wall of the body portion is bent downwardly at 8 and forwardly where it contracts with the front wall of the body portion, the free extremity of the curved portion of the rear wall, extending downwardly at 9, where it is disposed beyond the upper edge of the opening in the front wall of the body portion, defining a rest or support for the closure 7.

As clearly shown by Figure 1 of the drawing, the upper edge of the front wall is formed with pairs of spaced parallel slots 11 defining blades .12 which are slightly twisted to present sharp cutting edges. Openings 13 are also formed in the front wall of the body portion, through which openings the threads of the spools mounted in the spool compartment extend, so that the threads may be pulled and the desired length of thread removed from the spools, without the necessity of removing the spools from the spool compartment.

The spool compartment is normally closed by means of the curved closure 14, which is hingedly connected to the body portion at 15. Thus it will be seen that by raising the closure 14, access to the spools may be had, so that the spools may be removed and replaced with facility.

A removable needle threader is indicated bythe reference characterl6 and is removably supported within the closure 14.

This cabinet, while it holds spools in such positions with respect to each other that the threads may be readily removed therefrom, also provides a compartment to receive and contain such other articles employed in sewing, as pin cushion, needles, scissors or the like.
