Description
Nov. 14, 1967 T. s. 1.0 DUCA V INSTRUMENT STRING PACKAGE Filed April 25, 1966 H A i1! W [ll 4 I i I VNHi i m m 9 Z I .U 1: M a v w v Aw/@ /l United States Patent 3,352,416 INSTRUMENT STRING PACKAGE Thomas S. Lo Duca, 3038 W. Walnut St, Milwaukee, Wis. 53208 Filed Apr. 25, 1966, Ser. No. 545,941 2 Claims. (Cl. 206-79) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A folded sheet packet for instrument strings slotted to retain the coiled strings in substantially flat overlapping arrangement.
This invention relates to improvements in instrument string packages, and more particularly to a novel paper package for relatively fixed containment of a plurality of instrument strings.
In prior practice, guitar strings, for example, are generally packed in boxes, in which during shipment the strings are free to move about and become damaged, This invention has for one of its objects to provide an economical package which will contain a plurality of strings for an instrument such as a guitar in a protected overlapping and protectively fixed relationship provided by the specific construction of the package.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a front view in elevation of an instrument string package embodying the invention.
FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a view in elevation of the package with its front panel opened backwardiy and aligned with the back segment of the package.
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary elevational view of the inside of the frontal fold integral with the back segment of the package.
FIG. 5 is a view in elevation of the package with a portion of the front panel laid back, and with the frontal fold of the back segment turned open to disclose the relatively narrow return fold having hooked curvate slots therein cooperating with the horizontal slits in the frontal fold to nest and releasably secure a plurality of instrument strings.
FIG. 6 is a view taken on line 6-6 of FIG. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 10 refers to the device generally, comprising a back panel 11, a co-extensive frontal panel hinged thereto at the top at 13. Both the back panel 11 and the frontal panel 12 are provided with registering apertures at 13 and 14 for convenience in suspending the package 10 as from a pin or hook. The frontal panel 12 also has a large opening 3,352,416 Patented Nov. 14, 1967 See at 15, exposing to view a plurality of instrument strings 16. The back panel 11 has a slightly shorter frontal fold hinged laterally thereto, the segment 17 which in turn has a relatively narrow return fold 18. The segment 17 has a plurality of horizontal slits as at 19, and the narrow return fold 18 has a plurality of curvate slits spaced in its free edge 20, as at 21 and terminating at the inner ends thereof in a slightly enlarged circular aperture 22.
In use, the empty packet 10 is opened with the back panel 11, the frontal panel 12 and the segment 17 lying flat on a working surface. Each instrument string is in a coil form as shown and is inserted upwardly into a slit 19 with an adjacent portion thereof inserted and retained within the circular aperture 22 of a related arcuate or hook-shaped curvate Slit 21 in the return fold 13.
The frontal fold or segment 17 is then folded over against the back panel 11, and the frontal panel 12 is folded thereover. The segment 17 is secured to back panel 11 with conventional staples 24 after the strings 16 are in place.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
1. A package for instrument strings each disposed in a circular loop comprising a back panel of rectangular form, a frontal panel marginally coextensive therewith and hinged thereto at the top thereof and having a large aperture therein for view of the contents of said package, a laterally hinged fold on the back panel, a relatively narrow reversible fold on the free edge of said laterally hinged fold, said laterally hinged fold having a plurality of transverse slits for receiving looped instrument strings, and said narrow reversible fold having a plurality of curvate slits spaced in the free margin of said reversible fold to receive adjacent portions of said coiled instrument strings serving as detents against dislodgment of said coiled strings.
2. A package for instrument strings as in claim 1, said narrow reversible fold having a plurality of curvate slits therein terminating in enlarged circular apertures.
