Specification of Letters Patent.
No. 890,399. Patented June 9, 1908. Application filed September 20, 1907. Serial No. 393,842. To all whom it "may concern: a I vided with spring arms 8 extending upwardly Be it known that I, FRANK S. BARNES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sufl fern, in the countv of Rockland and State of outwardlv extending lugs 9 that are adapted New York, have invented new and useful to engage in the annular groove 4. Arranged mprovements in Non-Refillable -Bottle J above the valve to form a stop therefor is toppers, of which the following is a specifia disk or shield 9 having suitable perforacation. tions 10 through which the liquid can be This invention relates to a non-refillable poured out, there being provided on the bottle having a special form of neck for reunder side of the disk, pockets 11 through ceiving the valve and its supporting means, which the lugs 4 project. The pockets l1 and a stopper for sealing: th bottle. are open at the bottom side of the disk 9 and The invention has for one of its objects to the bottom openings therefrom and arranged ninety degrees apart n practice, the bottle is filled in any ap proved manner and the bottler then takes the device shown in Fig. 3 and drops a spherical valve or ball 18 into the pocket 5, and next compresses the springs 8 inwardly so that the upper ends thereof can be engaged in the pockets ll of the disk 9.
bottle and preventing refilling after the contents has been emptied.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a nonrefillable bottle provided with a spherical valve and a seat or pocket therefor which is readily inserted and an chored in the bottle ne k.
With these objects in view, and others, as
annular groove 4 is reached, whereupon the springs 8 move outwardly and cause the lugs 9 to engage in the said groove. device is thus inserted, a suitable sealing stopper is placed in the upper end of the neck so that the contents can not leak out if the bottle is upset.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have described t e principle of operation of the invention, the apparatus which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof,
desire to have it understood that the apparatus shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired, as are within the scope of the claims.
Having thus described the invention, what claim is:*
1. A non-refillable bottle comprising a neck having an internal annular groove, a valve seat fitted in the neck, means attached to the seat and engaging in the groove for In t 1e accompanying drawings, which illustrates one of the embodiments of the invention, Figure 1 is a central vertical section of the neck portion of a bottle with the nonrefillable device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the shield or valve stop. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the valve pocket or seatand anchoring springs therefor.
Similar reference characters are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
eferring to the drawing, 1 designates the neck of a bottle which is molded 3 at a point intermediate the ends, there be the upper end of the swell for the purpose hereinafter to be explained. Arranged within the neck 1 is a hollow helm-spherical pocket or seat 5 having a port 6 and snugly fit ting at 7, the neck adjacent the lower end of the swell 3, thereby preventing liquid from passing out between the seat and in ternal which surface of the neck. This pocket, is preferably made of metal, is proholding the seat in position, a ball valve cooperating with the seat, and a member for holding the valve in the neck, said member being separate from the valve seat and connected therewith by the said means and held in position by the latter.
2. A non-refillable bottle comprising a neck having an annular groove, a valve seat, a valve cooperating with the seat, a member for limiting the movement of the valve, and a common means for holding the member and seat in position.
3. A non-refillable bottle, comprising a bottle neck, a valve seat therein, a valve cooperating with the seat, a perforated member for permitting the liquid to pass out of the neck and serving as a stop for the valve, springs attached to the seat and arranged to anchor the seat and member in the neck.
4. A non-refillable bottle comprising a neck, a stopper therefor, a valve seat, a valve, an apertured disk above the seat and serving as a stop for the valve, resilient members attached to the seat and removably connected with the disk, and means engaged by the members for holding the disk and seat in position.
5. A non-refillable bottle comprising a neck having an annular groove and a swell below the groove, a valve seat fitting the neck at the bottom end of the swell, a ball valve for the seat, an ap'ertured disk provided with pockets opening at the periphery and bottom of the disk, resilient members at tached to the seat and having laterally bent ends extending through the pockets of the disk and engaging the annular groove of the neck, and a stopper for the neck.
6. In a non-refillable bottle, the combination of a bottle neck having an internal groove, a valve therein, a concaved valve seat consisting of a cup-shaped member having an opening, and parallel springs secured to the seat and arranged to prevent lateral movement of the valve, the extremities of the springs being bent laterally to engage in the said groove.
7 In a non-refillable bottle, the combination of a bottle neck, a valve, a concaved valve seat consisting of a cup-shaped member having an opening, springs connected with the seat and arranged to hold the latter in position, and means held in the neck by the springs for preventing access to the valve.
.lntestimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
FRANK S. BARNES.
