To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that. I, G.-\'rn.\ni.\'n1`. Uonnn'r'r, of Bos ton, in the county of Suti'olk, and State oi Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fluting-B'Iaehines; and 'l do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use. my invention, I will proceed to describe its nature, construction, and use.
lhe nature of my invention consists in hinging to a suitable base-board a series of small rods, and in combining with the same, by means of overl-caching arms, a longitudinal pressure-Imi', for the purpose of holdingl the ends ofthe rods in position.
Drawings.
A B, in all the drawings, represents the base, whicl may be of any suitable size.
H H 1I, &c., are small rods, hinged at K, as shown in fig. 3.
The hinge .l may be constructed as indicated, that is, by simpl)1 passing a small wire through the ends of the rods, or each rod maybe provided with an ordinary hinge.
`C G' and D D' are projecting arms, attached to each end ofthe board, as shown in tig. ll, one C C', of which serves to hold the end E, of' the pressure-barl'l F, said bar being attached by the hinge L. 'lhe other end, F, of the bar, is held down by the button G, ii". 1.
To use my machine., I proceed as follows:
The bar E F is turned up, as represented by the dotted lines ll,g. 1, then each alternate rod is turned up, and the article to be lint-ed is placed on the bars that were not turned np, and the alternate rods are brought down, and made fast by the bar E F.
The article to be iiutedoeeupies the position x y, tig. 2.
To complete the. operation, I hare only t0 stiiien the article, by means of sizing and a hot iron.
lVhat I claim as myinventiou, and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent ofthe Unit-ed States, is-
l'n a flirting-machine, the combination and arrangement of the hinged rods H H H, &c., the arnrs C' 1)', and the.' pressure-bar E F, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
