BIN-CABINET.

To all 'whom it may concern.'
. Be it known that I, CHARLES F. KURZ, a citizen ofthe United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bin- Oabinets and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in bin-cabinets more especially designed for use in stores or business places and in dwellings for holding ilour, grain or other merchandise kept on hand in bins.
One object of this invention is to provide a rocking bin which in its closed position occupies substantially the whole of the compartment containing the bin.
Another object is to provide a construction whereby the bin is slidable forwardly from the bin-containing compartment without interfering with the capability of the bin to rock and without necessitating any material reduction in the capacity of the bin.
Another object is to provide a rocking bin which is readily placed into and removed from the bin-containing compartment and yet not liable to become accidentally displaced in or from the said compartment.
Another object is to provide a rocking bin which is simple and durable in construction.
With these objects in view, and to the end of realizing other advantages hereinafter appearing, this invention consists in certain features of construction, and combinations of parts, hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the said drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a' bin-cabinet embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section on line 2-,-2, Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section corresponding with Fig. 2, except thatin Fig. 3 the bin is shown rocked into its fully open position, whereas in Fig. 2 the bin is shown in its closed position.
Referring to the said drawings, A indicates the case of my improved bin-cabinet, which case comprises a bin-containing compartment a which is formed within the Said case and has a horizontally arranged top wall 6, a horizontally arranged bottom 7, a vertically arranged rear wall 8 and two vertically arranged side walls 10 and 10. The bottom 7 forms the top of the base-forming portion of the case.
Two parallel and corresponding rails C are mounted on and secured in any approved manner to the bottom 7. The rails C extend forwardly and rearwardly and are s aced laterally of the said bottom. Preferab y the rails C are arranged next to the inner side of opposite side walls 10 and 10 respectively of t e case A. The top surfaces of the rails C .correspondingly slope upwardly from the rear ends of the rails so that the said surfaces are farther from the bottom 7 at the front ends of the rails than at the rear ends 0f the rails.
A bin B is contained in the main within the compartment a in the closed and normal position of the bin, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and mounted on the rails C. The bin B has an inclined bottom 12 and sides 13 which extend below the said bottom, as at 14, and rest upon the rails C. The members or portions 14 of the bin raise the bin-bottom above the compartment-bottom 7. The bin also has a vertically arranged rear wall 15 and a front 16, and the bottom 12 slopes upwardly and forwardly from the wall 15 to the wall 16.
It will be observed therefore that the bin is provided with two parallel downwardly projecting members 14 extending forwardly and rearwardly 4of the bin at opposite sides respectively of the bin and resting upon the rails C. The rear portions of the members 14 have corresponding straight lower edges 17 which slope somewhat upwardly and forwardly from the rear wall 15 of the bin and conform to the sloping upper surfaces of the rails C. The bin-bottom 12 has a greater slope than the edges 17 and top surfaces of the rails C so that the said members 14 are gradually reduced in dimensions toward their rear ends.
The straight sloping edges 17 of the members 14 terminate at their forward ends in forwardly and upwardly extending outwardly curved surfaces 18 with which the said members 14 are provided a suitable distance rearwardly of the front 16 of the bin so as to render the bin capable of rocking on the rails C in actuating the bin into what is regarded as its fully open position shown in Fig. 3 and in the return of the bin from its said open position into its closed position shown in Figs. 1 and 2. It will be observed therefore that the downwardly projecting members 14 of the bin are also shaped to form rockers arranged'to rock upon the rails B a suitable distance rearwardly of the front of the bin-containing case so that the forwardly and upwardly sloping surfaces of the rails C, although the said rails are arranged wholly within the case, extend a suitable distance forwardly of the rocker-forming portions of the members 14 so as to be instrumental in preventing the accidental displacement of the bin forwardly out of the bin in actuating the bin into its fully open position.
The downward and forward slope of the bin-front 16 enlarges the capacity of the bin. However, the shape or construction of the bin-front is immaterial so far as my invention is concerned.
In the closed position of the bin the edges 17 of the members 14 of the bin engage the top surfaces of the rails C, as shown very clearly in Fig. 2, but to prevent the said members 14 from slamming against the said rails by the movement of the bin from its open position into its closed position the upper portion of the rear wall 8 of the case A is provided in its forward side with a recess 2O engaged by a block D of compressible and elastic material, such, for instance as rubber, which block projects somewhat forwardly of the inner side of the said wall 8 and is arranged to be engaged and somewhat compressed by the upper end of the rear wall of the bin in the closed position of the bin.
The sides 13 of the bin are correspondingly reduced in height from the front of the bin to the rear wall of the bin and the said walls terminate at the rear extremity of the upper edges of the said sides, not only to permit the actuation of the bin from its closed into its open position, but to accommodate sliding of the bin at the edges 17 of its members 14 forwardly upon the rails C to thereby remove the bin bodily from within the case A as required to afford access to the interior of the case for cleaning purposes and to permit a renewal vof the cushion forming block D when required. l
In the extreme open position of the bin, as shown in Fig. 3, the upper end of the rear wall of thebin abuts against the under side of the top wall 6 of the case so that the bin cannot be rocked forwardly out of the case.
What I claim is 1. In a bin-cabinet, the combination, with a case having a bin-receiving compartment, of a bin arranged within the said compartment and provided below its bottom-with two laterally `spaced forwardly and rearwardly extending members whose rear portions have straight lower edges which slope upwardly toward the front of the bin, said forwardly and rearwardly extending members of the bin being provided rearward of the front of the case with surfaces which slope upwardly toward the front of the bin and are curved outwardly to form rockers, and forwardly and rearwardly extending rails arranged under the s'aid forwardly and rearwardly extending members of the bin and having top surfaces which slope upwardly toward the front of the bin.

In a bin-cabinet, the combination, with a case having a bin-receiving compartment, of a bin arranged within the said compartment and having a bottom which slopes u wardly toward the front of the bin from t e rear of the bin and provided below the said bottom with two laterally spaced forwardly and rearwardly extending members whose rear portions have straight lower ed es which slope upwardly toward the front o the bin, said forwardly and rearwardly extending members of the bin being provided rearward of the front of the case with surfaces which slope upwardly toward the front of the bin and are curved outwardly to form rockers, and forwardly and rearwardly extending rails arranged under the said forwardly and rearwardly extending members of the bin and having top surfaces which slope upwardly toward the front of the bin and are engaged by the aforesaid edges.

In a bin-cabinet, the combination, with a case having a bin-receiving compartment, of a bin arranged within the said compartment and provided below its bottom with two laterally spaced forwardly and rearwardly extending members whose rear ortions have straight lower edges which s ope upwardly toward the front of the bin, said forwardly and rearwardly extending members of the bin being provided rearward of the front of the case with surfaces which slope upwardly toward the front of the bin and are curved outwardly to form rockers; forwardly and rearwardly extending rails arranged under the said forwardly and rearwardly extending members of the bin and having top surfaces which slope upwardly toward the front of the bin, and a compressible and elastic block supported from the case rearward of the bin and arranged to be engaged and somewhat compressed by the bin in the closed and normal position of the bin.
4.
