Description
@i e @time mit JAMES D. FIELD, 0F
wA'rAeA, ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 88,618, dated April 6, 1869.
The' Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same.
Y o4. a
To all whom fitmcy concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES D. FIELD, of Wntegzt,
` in the county of Knox, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rain-nter Conductors; and I do hereby declare that the following is u full, clem', und exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to ineke and luse the some, reference being had to the accompanying drzuvings, forming part of this specification, in which .the druwing represents :t front elevation of the com binrttion of parts forming my invention, f
Similar letters oi' reference indicate like parts.V
The objectof this invention is to furnish a. simple and efficient :irl-:m gement of menus whereby rain-water descending from the gut-ter, or trough ofrt house-through a. lender-pipe, may be discharged into the cistern-supply pipe, or into the waste-water spout, bysimplypns ing in or ont the slide cov'er of e box, .or reservoir, from -which the said cistern-supply or waste-witter pipes lead.
The construction and operation of my invention are hereinafter set forth.
A is the box, or reservoir, having the cistern-supply pipe B and the waste-witter spout, or pipe C, leading from the bottom thereof', as shown.
A portion of the front of the box'A is broken awa-y in the dmwing, to exhibit the partition I, which divides the box into two compartment-s, one foreach of the pipesrB and O.
This partition reaches nearly' to the sliding top, or cover I), which slides in grooves formedby bending the upper edges of the box to form such grooves when Vpipe H.
the former is of sl1eet-meta.l, when, however, the box is of wood,-th'e grooves may be made in any other suitttble manner.
H is the leader-pipe, connecting with the trough, or gutter ofthe house; and
G and E zue joints of pipe pivoted together, the upbeing pivotedto the per end ofthe upper joint, G,
The lower' endof the lower joint, E, is aixed rigidly in any suitable Ina-nner to the sliding cover D.
The jointed pipes thus afford a. eXible connection between the pipe H Iand the sliding cover D, whereby the lutter .may be moved to conduct the descending water into either of' the compartments ofthe box, nocording as the water is to be carried to the cistern, or dischargedv through the waste-water spout.
The pipe H and joints G E may be pivoted together in the manner shown, or in :my other suitable manner.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim es new, Pntent- The slidingcover D, carrying the short pipe E, iu combination with the pivoted pipes G H, and the box A, divided by the partitionrI, and provided with the discharge-pipes B O, all arranged and operating its described, whereby the pipe flowing into the house is always protected, as herein set forth and. shown.
JAMES 'Du FIELD.
and desire to secure by Letters Witnesses:
