Be it known that l, WILL/inn Jones, a eitisen of the United States,'residing at Auburn, in the county' of Androscoggin and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Door-Plate, of which the following is a specilication.

This invention relates to name plates for doors, door frames,I cupboards, drawers and the like and has for its object to provide a comparatively simple .and inexpensive device of this character capable of being readily attached to a door-or other suitable support for displaying an. inscri tion.

A further object of tiie invention is to provide a door plate including a .frame having oppositely disposed Guide flanges upon which are slidably mounted the letters, numerals or other designating characters to be displa ed, said letters or characters being removab eso that the inscription may be changed at will.

A further object is to provide a transparent plate which lits between the guide' flanges and forms a housing for the letters or numerals constituting the inscription, there being a spring locking tongue extending laterally om o'ne end of the frame' and ada ted to yieldably engage the trans arent `p ate for locking said late between t ie guide flanges.

A still furt 1er object of the invention is to this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durabilityand efliciency. f

The plates 12 are each stamped or other- Wise formed with a letter, numeral or other designating character 13 while the opposite ends thereof are bent to form termina transverse flanges 14 adapted to engage the flanges 11 whereby the letter carrying` plates may be the supporting frame. f f1.

Engaging the seating grooves 15 of the flanges 11 is a strip of isinglass, glass or other transparent mate al 16 which forms a closure` for the display opening 8 and also constitutes a housing for the letter carrying plates 12 so as to protect the same against the action of the elements. l

.Formed integral with one of the end Walls 17 of the display opening v8 is a laterally extending spring locking tongue or lip 18 which yieldably engages the adjacent surface of the transparent plate 16 and serves'to lock the plate 16 within the seating grooves l5.

The opposite ends of the casing or housing 7 are formed with openings 19 for the reception of screws or similar fastening devices 20 by means of which the casing may be readily secured to a door or other suitable support.

4. A name plate including" a frame provided with a marginal flange and having a display opening formed .therein the walls of which are bent inwardly and terminate short of the free end ofthe marginal flange, the longitudinal walls of said opening being ex tended laterall and thence bent upon itself to form paralle guide flanges defining seating grooves, removable letter carrying plates slidabiy mounted on the flanges, a transparent plate slidably mounted in the grooves of the guide flanges, and a stop formed on one end of each guide flange for limiting the longitudinal movement of the letter carrying plates.

5. A name plate including a substantially rectangular frame provided with a marginal lflange and having a longitudinal dis lav openin formed therein the walls of wiiicli are inc ined towards the center of the frame and terminate short of the free end of the marginal flange of the latter, the longitudnal walls of the display opening being bent upon themselves to form terminal guide flanges defining seatinggrooves, plates slida lj, mounted on the guide flanges and each formed lwith* an integral. u -struck designating Adhai yaeter, transversefanges formed on the opposite endsof the yplates and engaging the guide flanges at the closed ends ofsaid seat ing groove, a transparent plate engaging the seatin grooves of t ie guide flanges and forming a c osure for the letter c arr yin g plates, and a spring locking tongue extending from the frame at one of the end walls of the display opening and having its free end yieldalily engaging the transparent plate for locking the same within the seating grooves.
