Be it known that I, HIRAM L. FAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at I-lerkimer, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door or Drawer Securers and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in securing devices, and more particularly to that class employed in connection with furniture or like articles, having doors and sliding drawers therein, and my object is to provide a fastener of this class, whereby the doors and drawers may be held in a closed position when the furniture is being shipped, or otherwise handled.

A further object is to provide means for readily attaching the securing device to the parts of the furniture.

Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, which are made a part of this application, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a piece of furniture, showing my improved fastgning device applied to use thereon. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view on an enlarged scale as seen on line 2-2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the T 0 all whom it may concern:

Referring to the drawings, in which similar reference numerals designate correspondmg parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates an article of furniture, which is divided into compartments by means of a partition 2, while the compartments thus formed are divided into auxiliary compartments by means of a horizontally disposed partition 3, the compartments above the partition 3 being occupied by the usual form of drawers 4 and 5, while the com artments below the partition 3 are covered Ivy means of doors 6 and 7. In shipping furniture of this class, it frequently occurs that the parts thereof be- 1 securing device, and, Fig. 4 is a plan view of come broken, by the doors or drawers swinging open, and in order to hold said parts in a closed position, I provide my improved securing device, comprising a body portion 8, which preferably consists of an oblong sheet of metal, one end of which is severed at its central portion, and thus providing arms 9 and 10, while a portion of the opposite end of the body portion is struck up to form a substantially V-shaped prong 11, and in a plying my securing device to the article of urniture, one of the drawers is removed, and in this instance the drawer 4, after which the body portion 8 is entered in the opening, and the prong 11 forced into the face of the partition 2, that portion of the body having the arms 9 and 10 protruding beyond the outer edge of the partition. The drawer is then returned to its closed position, and the arms 9 and 10 bent at right angles to the body portion 8, and in opposite directions, the arm 9 extending over the face of the drawer 4, while the arm 10 extends over the edge of the partition 2 and the outer face of the drawer 5, and likewise, in securing the doors 6 and 7 in their closed position, the door 6 is opened and the securing device applied as a ove stated, after which the door is again closed and the arms directed at right angles to the body portion.

This device is preferably constructed of sheet-tin, or similar liable metal, so that the parts thereof can be readily bent, as desired.

It will thus be seen that the securing device can be very cheaply constructed and formed from a single piece of metal, and it will further be seen that when the device is applied to use, the parts engaged by the arms will be positively held in their closed position, and thereby lessenin the danger of breakage, and when the artic e has reached its destination, the arms 9 and 10 can again be bent to their original position, so that the drawers and doors can be readily opened to remove the securing device.
