Description

R. A. .MACBETH.
Doos SECURER. APPLICATION FlLEDiJULYZB. 1916.
A mwm Patented Sept.l 11, 1917.
ROBERT ANDREW MACBETH, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DOOR-SEGURER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. lll, i917.
Application filed July 28, 1916.` Serial No. 111,940.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, Rounn'r ANDREW MAC- nn'rH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Door-Securer, of which the following is a specification.
llhis invent-ion relates to an improved door securer, and one of the objects of the `invention is to provide a device of this kind comprising means connecting the jamb of the door and the. door knob, to prevent the door from being opened from'the exterior, although said door may be otherwise unlocked.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind consisting of a plate having forks at one end provided with spurs to embed in the jamb of the door frame and provided with guides axially alined to receive a bolt, which has a hook at one end to engage a knob, and a winged nut threaded on the other end to work against one of the guides, to draw-the plate and the bolt toward each other, to hold the door securely.
ln practical fields, the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figure l is a view in perspective of door securer as applied to the door knob and the jamb of the door frame for securing the door.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on' line 2 2 of Fig. l.
Referring more especiallyV to the drawings, l designates a metallic plate having lugs or ears 2 and 3 at its opposite ends, which lugs extend laterally and in parallelism and are provided with apertures l, At one end of the plate l adjacent the lug or ear 2 are the arms or forks 5. Where these arms connect to the plate l, they are provided with curved portions 6. These arms 5, at their outer portions, are bent at 7, thereby forming the gripping fingers 8, which extend at right angles to the arms. The extremities of these gripping lingers are curved or inclined inwardly, so as to @epics of this patent may be obtained for embed into the frame of the door, thereby preventing the lugsy from becoming detached, should the door be shaken in an attempt to disconnect the device. The apertures 4 of the ears 2 and 3 are axially alined, and receive and guide the coupling rod 9 which is threaded at l0 at one end and is provided with a hook ll at its other end, which engages the shank l2 of the door knob 13. A winged nut 14 is carried by the rod 9 to engage the threads l0. By turning this nut 14 until it contacts with one face of the ear or lug 2 and tightening up upon the same, the coupling rod and the coupling plate are drawn toward each other, and the tighter the nut la is adjusted, the farther the gripping fingers embed into the frame of the door, that is, into the edge thereof, thereby preventing accidental displacement or detachment of the door securer, should the door be shaken or vibrated. The plate l, with its attendant parts, may be called a coupling plate and may be stamped from a single piece of sheet metal.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful, is
A door securer, comprising a coupler to be constructed from a single piece of sheet metal, said coupler consisting of a plate having a pair of ears at its opposite ends extending laterally and in parallelism, said ears havingguide apertures axially alined, one end of said plate adjacent one of the ears merging upwardly and downwardly forming curved portions, merging into top and bottom horizontally disposed parallel arms, the end portions of which being bent, forming gripping fingers extending at slight acute angles to the inner faces of the arms and curving at their extremities toward and engaging the edge of the door frame, a coupling rod guided by and mounted in said apertures of the ears and having one end threaded, and its other end turned into a hook to engage the shank of the door knob, and a nut mounted on the threaded end of the coupling rod and designed to be adjusted against one face of the ear adjacent the curved portion of the arms, in order to draw the coupler and the coupling rod toward each other.
ROBERT ANDREW? MACBETH.
