Description

J. B} EVEREST.
noon-CHECK.
9 Patented A pfi l24,1877.
monuivsi UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES B EVEREST, OF YONKERS, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-CHECKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,927., dated April 24, 1877 application filed March 12, 1877. a
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES BEVEBEST, of Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Door-Holder, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improve door-holder as applied to a door. Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention consists in a spring of peculiar shape made from a single piece ofspringwire; the object being to provide an inexpensive and simple device *hat may be readily placed under doors of every description for holding them in any desired position, as hereinafter more fully described and definitely claimed.
In the drawing, A is a T-shaped wire loop), the parallel extremities of which are formed into coils a a, from which the wires extend nearly parallel to the T-shaped loop A for about half their length, from which point they converge until they touch each other, when they are twisted together, forming the part B, and are finally separated and the ends are formed into eyes I). The free end of the T-shaped loop is curved upward, so as to make its upper surface slightly concave. The holder is placed under the door by first placing the T-shaped loop under the edge of the door, and then swinging the end having eyes under the door, and bringing it into the position shown in Fig. 2. The holder exerts sufficient pressure on thefloor to hold the door from moving from slight causes. The device may, if desired, be secured to the floor by screws,'as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A door-holding device consisting of a single piece of spring-wire formed into a loop, A, coils a a, and part B, having eyes b, substantially as herein shown and described.
JAMES B. EVEREST.
