ADJUSTABLE PANTS OR SKIRT HANGER.

To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, MAHLON E. Davis, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norwalk, in the county of Huron and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Pants or Skirt Hangers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improved pants or skirt hanger comprising a plurality of arms having springs clips secured thereto and adapted to .be slidably adjusted on each other.

One of the objects of the invention is the production of a simple, neat and efficient hanger adapted to he slidably adjusted and provided with a guide buckle having a supporting hook connected thereto.

Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and in the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved device applied for sup orting pants; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the hanger folded; and Fig. 4 is a detail vertical sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a detailedview of a gripping part.

In the drawings, 1 and 2 denote the hanger arms, which are formed with buckle ends, 3 and 4, and provided with apertures, 5 and 6. The buckle ends, 3 and 4, are bent at an oblique angle to the body portion of the arms, 1 and 2, so as to form terminals, 7 and 8. A slot, 9, is formed in the oblique portion of the buckle ends, and the apertured ends of the arms, 1 and 2, extend through said buckle ends.

l and 2, and said guide buckle is provided with a swinging hook, 12, which is positioned on the rear side of said guide buckle. A plurality of spring clips, 13 and 14, are secured to the outer ends of the hanger arms, 1 and 2, by means of rivets, 15, which are arranged to extend `to apertures, 5 and 6,

lformed in said `hanger ends.

The clips, 13 and 14, are spaced apart from the hanger arms, 1 and 2, by means of washers, 16, and

engage stop pins, 17, adapted to prevent mward movement of said clips when in a dependin position thereby holding the suspende garment held thereon in an extended position.

The hanger arms, 1 and 2, are adjusted by sliding said arms on `each other and on the guide buckle, l0, and said guide buckle is arranged to move rather stiiily on said hanger arms so as to frictionally prevent free movement of said arms. The clips, 14 and 15, are adapted to be rotated on the ends of the hanger arms so as to allow the various parts to be folded compactly upon themselves.

The clips, 14 and 15, may be of the conventional kind or they may be formed with reinforced inner sides, 18, having serrated faces and provided with lateral teeth, 19, and said reinforcing sides may be bent on the main sections of said clips.

My improved hanger may be cheaply constructed, and when not in use may be packed and folded upon itself so as to occupy the minimum amount of space in a trunk or other receptacle. The sliding adjustment of my hanger is such that the hanger arms may be adjusted with relation to each other without the use of set screws or equivalent means, and when adjusted will not move from their adjusted position owing to the friotional engagement of the guide buckle therewith.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacriiicing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, is:

1. An adjustable hanger comprising a pair of slidably united hanger arms, each arm being formed with obliquely bent slotted portions terminating in lat ends bent on a plane parallel with the body of the arms so as to frictionally engage the adjacent face of the other arm, stop pins arranged on the opposite ends of each arm, and clips pivotally secured to said ends and so as to engage with said stop pins.

2. An adjustable hanger comprising a pair of slidably united hanger arms7 each arm being formed with obliquely bent slotted portions terminating in flat ends bent on a plane parallel with the body of the hanger arms so as to frictionally engage the adjacent face of the other arm, a guide buckle formed with obliquely bent slotted portions terminating in flat ends bent on a plane arallel with the middle body portion of sai buckle slidably mounted on the hanger arms so that the middle body portion of said buckle will frictionally engage with the outer face of one hanger arm and the ends of said buckle will engage with the outer face of the other hanger arm, stop pins secured to the ends of the hanger arms and adjusting clips pivotally mounted on said ends in position to engage said stop pins. j 3. An adjustable hanger comprising a pair of slidably united hanger arms, each arm being formed with obliquely bent slotted portions terminating in flat ends bent on a p ane parallel with the body of the arms so as to frictionally engage the adjacent face of the other arm, stop pins arranged on opposite ends of each arm, and clips pivotally secured to said ends so as to engage with said stop pins, said clips being formed with reinforcing inner sides inwardly bent from the body portion and have serrated faces provided with lateral teeth.
