T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS HENRY WAL- Lis, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Ocala, in the county of Marion and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Syringe, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a syringe designed especially for self-treatment, and to be carried for convenience in a vest pocket,
' to which end it is made in small compact form resembling externally a fountain pen and provided with a suitable dry compartment for storing medicated tablets. It has also attached a cap for holding sufficient water to dissolve a tablet and fill the barrel of the syringe.
To this end the invention consists of the novel combination, construction and ar rangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the invention on an enlarged scale: Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional view through the syringe and cap, the latter detached. Fig. 2 is a side view of the syringe closed ready for the pocket.
Similar reference numerals are used for the same parts on all the iigures.
The opposite end of the barrel 1 has an internal overhanging flange 13 through which the hollow iston rod 14 moves and which forms an a utment for a collar 15 on the inner end of the piston rod and prevents its withdrawal. A short stern 16 projects from the inner end of the piston rod' for the piston packing 17, held on the stem by a nut 18. The piston rod 14 is hollow, the chamber 19 therein serving as a receptacle for curative tablets 20, and is closed at its outer end by a screw cap 21 of the same diameter as the barrel 1 of the syringe and rests against it when closed.
To prepare the syringe, the cap 8 is removed from the barrel and the cap 21 unscrewed, a tablet removed and the cap replaced. The tablet is then placed in the cap S and the latter filled with water, about one dram, and screwed on the thread 6. When the syringe is to be used, it is shaken to dissolve the tablet and then held with the point up, the cap 12 loosened to permit air to enter the cup and the piston drawn back to fill the syringe." The cap 8 must now be removed and the syringe is ready for use.
The entire syringe is preferably made' of hard rubber, although it may be made of other materials when desired.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1, A syringe comprising an open barrel having a double thread on one end, a nozzle fitted to one thread and a cap inclosing said nozzle and screwed on the other thread, and a valved air inlet on said cap.
2. A syringe comprising an open barrel having two threads on one end of different diameters and an internal iiange at the other end, a nozzle, a cap covering said nozzle and having a valved air inlet, a hollow piston in the barrel having a collar on its lower end and a screw cap on its outer end.
3. A syringe comprising an open barrel having a removable nozzle, a cap having a valved opening adapted to fit over the nozzle end of the syringe, a piston having a receptacle formed therein and open only on the outside of the barrel, and a cover cap for said hollow piston.
