FEEDING DEVICE.
APPLICATION mm APR. 12, 1916.

FEEDING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 25, 1916.
Application filed April 12, 1916. Serial N 0. 90,570.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLnMENs ZOK, a citizen of Germany, residing at Muskegon, in the county of Muskegon and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feeding Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in feeding devices and more particularly to a device adapted for the forced feeding of chickens, or other fowls, having the pip or other tongue or bill disease which renders them temporarily unable to partake of food in the ordinary manner and which if not eradicated may prove fatal.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of said specification and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my feeding device in use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same showing an attachment for retaining the head of the fowl in a fixed position. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through a portion of the device. Fig. 4c is a section taken on line 44 of Fig. 3.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
My feeding device comprises a pump portion composed of the usual cylindrical tank or body 1 having a plunger which extends through the pump cap 2, which is formed with oppositely disposed ears 3, 3, and said plunger is provided terminally with the finger ring 4: whereby it may be operated. The forward or working end of the pump is provided with a lid or cover 5 which is formed with slots 6 to permit its engagement with the pins 7 of the tank 1 and the forward or smaller end of said lid is threaded exteriorly for engagement with a food spout 8 which is formed with an enlarged mouth 9 having a V-shaped opening and within said mouth a deflector 10 is formed about which channels 11, 11 extend to the open end of the food spout. A bracket 12 may be secured about the spout 8 by means of the thumb screw 13 and a shank let pivotally carried by said bracket terminates in a head piece 15, a concave leaf-like member, adapted to conform to the shape of the head of a fowl.
In operation the pump or cylinder 1 is filled with liquid food after the cover 5 has been removed. The cover is then replaced and the food spout secured to the cover. The operator holds the instrument in one hand and with the plunger drawn into the cylinder he adjusts the food spout to the bill of the fowl, the-deflector 10 being inserted into the bill to keep it open and the head piece may be applied to the head of the fowl. The channels 11, 11 now lead into the bill of the fowl. The operator gently forces the plunger, through the medium of finger ring 4, inward thus forcing the liquid food through the spout and channels 11 into the fowls bill.
What isclaimed is 1. In a feeding device, a cylinder, a piston movable in said cylinder, a lid removably secured to said cylinder, a spout secured to said lid and a deflector within said spout.
2. In a feeding device, a cylinder, a piston movable in said cylinder, a lid removably secured to said cylinder, a spout secured to said lid and means formed within said spout whereby its bore is divided into separate channels.
3. In a feeding device, a cylinder, a piston movable in said cylinder, a lid removably secured to said cylinder, a spout secured to said lid and a head piece pivotally secured to said spout.
1. In a feeding device, a cylinder, a piston movable in said cylinder, a lid removably secured to said cylinder, a spout secured to said lid, a deflector within said spout, and a head piece secured to said spout.
5. In a feeding device, a cylinder, a piston movable in said cylinder, a lid removably secured to said cylinder, a spout secured to said lid and formed With an enas my own I have herete affixed my sigma larged mouth with a V-shaped opening, ture in the presence of tWo subscribing Witand a deflector arranged Within said mouth nesses.v
and projected into the open portion thereof CLEMENS ZOK. 5 to divide the bore in said spout and mouth Witnesses: I
into separate channels. ED. REIGH, W
In testimony that I claim the foregoing CHAS. ZELLAR.
