Description
o. F. KAISSBR. I T'ORREFYI'NG APPARATUS FOR THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 26. 1906.
Fua-Ja I .PATENTED MAR. 24, 1908.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\ CHARLES FREDERIO KAISSER, OF 'LILLE, FRANCE.
TORREFY ING APPARATUS FOR THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. KAISSER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Lille, in France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Torrefying Apparatus for the Textile Industry, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The apparatus which forms the object of the present invention is intended for gassing. or singeing textile materials which singeing consists in burning the down or nap of the threads and fabrics and which has hitherto been effected with a naked gas flame.
This apparatus is represented by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1: shows in elevation an apparatus for torrefying or singeing threads; Fig. 2: is a plan view of the same Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the same; Fig. 4: represents a longitudinal section on the line A B of Fig. 3; Fig. 5: is a sectional elevation of an ap aratus for singeing piece goods Fig. 6: is a p an view of a modified form of apparatus for singeing thread; Fig. 7: represents 'a cross section through Fig. 6.
As shown in the drawing, this ap aratus is constituted by a parallelepiped body a of refractory mineral material such as steatite, refractory earth or an equivalent' This art a presents on one of its faces a longitu inal groove 1) of a propriate width depth and section beneat which a cavity 0 is formed. In this cavity a a source of heat such as an electrical resistance (1 is provided for the purpose of raising the walls of the groove 1) to an incandescent heat.
In Figs. 1 to 3 and 4, the groove 6 is represented in the form of an ordinary channel, the incandescent walls of which effect the singeof the thread.
in p %n Figs. 6 and 7, the groove 1) is shown Specification of Letters Patent.

platinum treated with iridium or rhodium the extremities of which are turned down on each side of the block a beneath metal fittings intended to serve as terminals or contacts. The form and nature of the resistance may vary, provided that it presents the properties necessitated by the high temperature and its maintenance at the necessary height.
Although the drawings represent an electrical resistance some other source of heat, such for exam le as a row of gas ets may be used to heat tie apparatus.
In the apparatus represented in the drawing, either a single thread or two, three 0 more threads may be singed.
For electric singeing, which is more particularly aimed at in the present patent, cer tain constructions are capable of giving practical results. For example, the resist ance represented above might be replaced by a resistance forming one with the refractory material for this purpose it would only be necessary to plate the upper part of the refractory material with an appropriate metal either electrolytically or in any other convenient manner. An appropriate resistance might also be fixed upon the refractory body by means of a coat or a varnish presenting sufficient resistance to heat.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
1. In an apparatus of the character de scribed, the combination with a body of refractory material having an interior cavity, and a slot in one face, of a heating device arranged within the said cavity.
2. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a body of refractory material having an interior cavity, and a T-shaped slot in one face extending the entire length of the body, of a heating device arranged within the cavity.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES FREDERIC KAISSER.
