INVENTUR:
WITNESSES. 4 242 fiM UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAV SPIESS, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 10, 1908.
Application filed March 22, 1907. Serial No. 363,972.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, GUSTAV SPIEss, subject of the German Emperor, residing at Berlin, Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Putting on and Taking off Hose, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a device for putting on and taking off hose.
The object of the invention, is to enable corpulent people invalids or other persons who can move only with difficulty to put on and take off hose when sitting without the necessity of bending.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood reference is made to the accompanying drawings in which one embodiment is shown by way of example and in which Figure l is a front elevation of the device Fig. 2 is a side elevation and Fig. 3 is a plan Fig. 4 shows the manner in which the hose is put on Fig. 5 shows how the hose is taken off.
Similar letters denote similar parts in all views.
The device consists essentially of a bow (L made of wood or metal which has say a semi-elliptical shape, its ends I) being somewhat thickened and bent inwards; to this how a two downwardly and outwardly directed horns c and d are attached one of which terminates free at e whereas the other is fixed at f to the lower end of the handle g.
The device is used as follows: The leg of the hose is first rolled up from the top outwards into a roll, this roll is then placed on the device in such a manner that the bow is between the roll and the smooth inner part of the hose, the said roll resting in the horns c and d. The hose thus held in position in the device is directed with the aid of the handle 9 to the foot, and pulled over it, and it is then drawn up along the leg, the hose unwinding itself in the holding horns c and d until it is completely on, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing.
To take off the hose the top of the same is engaged with the horn c and the adjoining end b of the bow a, and the hose becoming folded up is then pushed downward the leg as shown in Fig. 5.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device for putting on and taking off hose comprising in combination a bow, a plurality of horns fixed to said bow, and a handle attached to one of said horns, substantially as set forth.
2. A device for putting on and taking off hose comprising in combination a semielliptical bow, two downwardly and outwardly directed horns fixed to it, and a handle attached at its lower end to one of said horns, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAV SPIESS.
