Description

PATENTED FEB. 4, 1908.
A ILLOWAY COLLAR SUPPORTER- APPLICATION FILED AUG. 24, 1906.
ANTOINETTA ILLOWAY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COLLAR-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Feb. 4, 1908.
Application filed August 24, 1906- Serial No. 331-841- T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTOINETTA ILLO- I WAY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Sn porters, of which the following is a full, 0 ear, and eXact description.
The object of my invention is to produce in a simple manner a very inexpensive supporterfor ladies collars, such as are used to su )port or spread the collar when it is made of ight and flexible material.
I provide a frame which is preferably a flat piece of metal stamped in the desired shape, and at each of the ends there is a pin transverse to the frame which is ada ted to be secured to the material of the col ar, the frame being then in a vertical position.
In the drawings forming part of this application, Figure 1 is a View showing the use of the supporter. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the preferred form. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation thereof. Fig. 4 is an edge elevation of the same. Fig. 5 is a similar view from the opposite edge.
In the making of the sup orter I prefer to stamp it from a flat piece of metal in a fanciful shape, so as to form a frame 1, which will be of such a length as to correspond with the height of the collar, and the ends are preferably bifurcated as shown. That is the frame has ends 2 which carry the pins 3, the latter being at right angles to the frame and offset therefrom and overturned as shown inFigs. 2 and 3; and ends 4 which form arms that are pivoted on the frame by means of the pivots 5. The arms 4 have on their outer ends eyes 6, formed by overturning their ends, which are positioned so as to engage on the end of pins 3 when the arms 4 are swinging into position. In using, the pins 3 are caught into the material of the collar, one at the top, and the other at the bottom, and the arms are then brought close so that the eyes will engage the ends of the pins and the collar will be held in shape.
Having described my invention what I claim is:
A collar supporter comprising a stiffening or spreading member having a stationary arm at each end, each arm having a pin offset therefrom and at right angles thereto, a movable arm pivoted to said stiffening member below each pin of each stationary arm, and provided with a loop adapted to engage the end of said pin.
Signed this 20th day of August, 1906.
