To all whom 'it lrml/y concern V v Be it known, that 1,-R0BERT Errrs, Jr., of Fitchburg, Worcester.- c'ounty, Massachusetts, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Chairs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a` full, clear, vand exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being. had
to the accompanying drawings, forming part of'this specification, in whichv FigureV l is a .front view of my improved chair'. Figures 2 and 3 illustrate modifications of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My' invention has for its object to improve the con-V structiouof chairs, and consists in securing the bowparts or braces of the chairs to the other parts of the frames, by means of metallic screw-sockets, as hereinafter more fully described. 4

The front legs, A, are connected to each other, and are held in their propel' relative` positions by a bow, D, the middle part of which` is attached to the under side of the forward part of the chair-bottom B, by screws or other substantial means.
The ends of the bow D are inserted in metallic sockcts E, the Shanks of which 4are cast with screw-threads,
so that they'may be screwed into the legs A.
The cavity of the sockets E is made wider in its lower part than at its mouth, and the ends of the bows.
ystanding upon their hind legs, to nd a resting-place for their feet upon the front rounds of tire chair.
The metallic sockets E may also be used for attaching bent or curved arms to the bottom, B, and to the pillars of the back O, as shown in red, in fig. 2, or for attaching a curved or bent back to the bottom, B, as shown in red in g. 3.
In fact,the metallic sockets E may be used for securing Vthe ends of anyof the bow-parts of the chairframe to their places, Whether said bows be made of bent or saw stuff.
' I claim as new, and desire lto secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the metallic screw-sockets E, and bow D, with the bottom and legs, or the bottom and back of a chair, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
