"To all whom it may concern:

HARVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Adin, in the county of Modoc and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelope; and I do declare the -following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as: will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. This invention relates to improvements in envelops The object of the invention is to provide an envelop which after being used once may be reversed or folded inside out to form a return envelo With the a ove and other objects in view,

the invention consists of certain novel fea tures of construction, coml )ination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings:---Figure 1 is a plan view of the back' side of an en vclop constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 a similar View of the envelop with one of the sealing llaps shown open;

Fig. 3 is a similar view with both of the sealing flaps shown open; Fig. 4 a plan view of the blank from whichthe envelop is formed and Fig. 5 1s a plan view of the back side of the envelop folded inside out or reverse to that shown in the former figures, showing the sealing llap open.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes theenvelop, which consists of a main or body portion 2, on the upper and lower edges of which areformed sealing flaps 3 and 4 of approximately the same width. The sealing flap 3 is provided on one sideadjacent to its outer edge with a gummed surface 5, at the inner edge of which is arranged a row of perforations 6, bymeans of which the flap 3 may be torn loose after being sealed in order toopen the envelop. The sealing flap 4 is provided adjacent to its outer ed e with a umrned' surface 7 said surface being arranged on thelopposite side of the flap from the gummed sur ace f the flap 3'. Arranged on each end of the main section 2 are end flaps 8 and 9, said flaps being tapered toward their ends, as shown. In one edge of the flap 8 is formed a diagonal cut 10, while in the o posite edge of the flap 9 is formed a diagonarcut .l 1, said cuts forming tongues 13 and 14 which when the flaps when the envelop is reversed.

Then the envelop is first used, the end flaps S and 9 are engaged and looked as above described, after which the flap 4 is folded over onto said engaged end ilaps, in which position the envelop is ready for the insertion of a letter. When the envelop is closed the gum 5 of the flap 3 is moistened and said flap is folded down upon the flap 4 and sealed thereto the sealing surface of one extending below that of the other and out of register therewith to leavethe sealing surface for use In opening the envelop for the iirst time, the flap 3 is torn loose along the perforated line 6, after which the contents of the en elop may be ll'- desired, the envelop may now be opened out by folding back the flap 4 and disengaging and-unfolding the end flaps 8, 9,

after which said end flaps may be folded in a reverse direction upon what was formerly the outside portion 2 of the envelop and the locking tongues 13 and 14 engaged in the same manner as hereinbefore described. After the end flaps have been thus engaged, the flap 3 is folded upon said end flaps and the envelop closed-by closing the flap 4 down upon the flap 3, the gummed surface 7 of the flap 4 being moistened and sealed to the flap 3 as will be understood, thusproviding a return envelop formed entirely by refolding the parts in a reverse position to which the occupied whenthe envelop was first forme From the foregoing description, takenv in connection with the accompanying drawings,

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departii'ig from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, as defined by the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, is
