HENRY RUEVE, JR, OF SHERIDAN, PENNSYLVANIA.
SAFETY-ENVELOP- SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 763,797, dated June 28, 1904.
Application filed November '7, 1903. Serial No. 180,251. "(No model.)
To a. whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY RUEVE, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Sheridan, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented .new and useful Improvements in Safety-Eriv'elops, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in safety-envelops; and its object is to provide a device of this character which when sealed has no exposed edges which might be tampered with by unauthorized persons for the purpose of unsealing the envelop.
The invention consists in forming an envelop of a sheet of paper or other suitable material the side edges of which are folded so as to form triangular flaps, between the central ones of which is arranged a partition which is adapted to be secured therein by means of gum. A sealing-flap of ordinary form is arranged along one edge of the envelop and has the gum or mucilage affixed upon its two faces, whereby said flap can be inserted into one of the compartments of the envelop and secured to both walls thereof, thereby thoroughly sealing the other compartments of the envelop and leaving no edges of the blank exposed.
The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device open. Fig. 2 is a similar View thereof prior to the insertion of the partition. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the open envelop, taken from the other side thereof. Fig. 4. is a section through the sealed envelop, and Fig. 5 is a detail View of the partition.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, l is a blank of paper or other suitable material'the side edges of which are folded to form, preferably, four triangular flaps 2, separated by triangular recesses 3. A sealingflap 4 is formed integral with the blank at one end thereof and beyond the triangular flaps 2, and the remainder of the blank is folded upon itself, so as to form the flaps 2 between the ends thereof. Mucilage or other suitable material is placed upon both faces of the seal- 'the sealing-flap and are aflixed thereto.
ing-flap 4, as shown at 5 in Figs. 2 and 3. A partition 6, substantially similar in size to one of the folds of the strip 1, is adapted to be inserted within the central triangular recess 3, and this partition has a gummed flap 7 at its lower edge, which is adapted to be affixed to one of the folds of the strip 1. The walls of these central recesses 3 are gummed, and after the partition has been inserted thereinto and the flap 7 affixed to the strip 1 the walls of the central recesses 3 are afiixed to the ends of the partition, as shown in Fig. 1, thereby forming two compartments 8 and 9 Within the envelop. When it is desiredto seal the envelop, the sealing-flap 4: is inserted into the compartment 9, and the walls of said compartment are then pressed upon the two faces of It will be seen that after an envelop of this construction has been sealed in this manner none of the edges of the blank are exposed, and thereforeit is impossible to open or unseal the envelop without tearing or otherwise mutilating the material of which it is constructed.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of theadvantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- An envelop comprising a strip folded upon itself and having integral triangular flaps between the ends thereof and projecting inwardly, a partition interposed between and aflixed to the central triangular flaps at each end of the envelop, a flap extending from the inner edge of the partition, and affixed to the strip, and a flap integral with one end of the strip and adapted to be inserted betiveen and affixed to the other end of the strip, the adjoining triangular flaps and the partition.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY RUEVE, JR.
