HITCHING-STRAP FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 7, 1908.
Application filed June l5|1906- Serial No. 321.908.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD NEIsINGn, a citizen of the United States, residing in the town of Excelsior, county of IIennepin, and
State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hitching- Strap Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for securing loops of straps to prevent slipping, and more particularly to devices for securing the ends of straps to movable fasteners provided on the strap bodies, the object being to provide means for so connecting the end and body that the loop may be tightened by tension and not slip when tension ceases. I
The device of the improvement consists of an open metal frame through which the strap passes and is slidable, and a spring arranged for pressing the strap against the upper wall of the frame having a suitable lip for receiving an ordinary harness snap when the strap is looped. This device is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which* Figure 1 shows a side elevation of a post with a strap provided with my improved fastener secured around it; Fig. 2 is an enlarged top View of the post and strap and fastener of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 shows the outer side of the fastener and strap; Fig. 4 shows the inner side of the fastener and strap and spring in position; and Fig. 5 shows a central sectional view of the fastener and strap and the ordinary harness snap attached around the lip of the fastener.
In the drawings 1 designates an ordinary leather hitching-strap; 2 a suitable harness snap; and 3 a slidable frame on the body of the strap. The frame 3 is of metal and consists of an open body slightly curved lengthwise and having both ends open to receive the strap. This construction allows the frame to be moved freely on the strap; and to provide suitable frictional contact to prevent too free movement a spring I is secured to the end portion of the frame, and extends inward, and is slightly curved near its extreme end to contact with the strap and serves, in conjunction with the frictional contact of the strap and frame, to hold the frame in place on the strap and thereby hold the strap in place and prevent it from slipping downward on the post. The lip 5 is so 0011- structed as to allow an ordinary harness snap to be snapped thereon, as shown in Fig. 5, to make the necessary loop.
In hitching to a post the fastener frame 3 is moved on the strap to a suitable point, and the end portion of the strap is then passed around the post and the snap 2 is snapped to the lip of the frame, after which the body of the strap should be pulled upon to tighten the loop. WVhon this has been done the friction of the fastener frame and strap will prevent any loosening or slipping of the loop and the strap will be prevented from slipping down the post. The outer ed gcs of the frame 3 have corrugations 6 to prevent slipping of the fingers in pulling the fastener 011 the strap. In nnhitching, the loop can readily be loosened by hand by pulling the frame toward the body of the strap, or pushing the body of the strap toward the frame; but until this is done it will remain securely in place.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A hitching strap fastener, consisting of an open frame composed of slightly curved sidebars, a bridge uniting their upper edges near the middle, a cross-bar uniting the sides at one end, a spring attached to said cross-bar and adapted to press a strap against said bridge, and a lip uniting the opposite ends of the side-bars and adapted to be engaged by a snap-hook, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 5th. day of June 1906.
RICHARD NEISINGH.
