BAIL ATTACIHGIENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
"Patented nee e4, 1907.
Application filed May 3; 1907 Serial No, 371,707-
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES D. HUN- GATE, citizen of the United States, residing at Camp Creek, in the county of Floyd and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bail Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention aims to provide a novel form of bail attachment which can be readily applied to a milk jar or like receptaole and forms a convenient means for transporting the same from place to place.
The invention has for its further object to design an attachment of this character which'is sim 1e and ineX ensive in its construction an can be easi. y and quickly applied to the jar or removed therefrom as required.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is to he had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the bail applied to the neck of a milk bottle.
showing the bail at- 3 is an enlarged Fig. 2 is a similar view tachrnent removed. Fig. detail view of the has er.
Corresponding and ike parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
in general the invention embodies a clamp ing device which is in the nature ci e band designed to extend around the neck of the bottle or receptacle to which the attachment is applied, and a bail having an operative connection with the said hand.
The numerals 1 designate the oppositely facing iaws of the clamp which are shown as approximately semicircular in form, although they may be given any desired shape aceording'to the nature of the receptacle in connection with which the attachment is to be em loyed.
Bel crank levers 2 pivotally connected at the junction of their two arms to the extremities of the jaws 1 as indicated at 3. fine arm 4 of each of the bell crank. levers .2 extends downwardly and the corresponding arms 4: upon opposite sides of the clamp are extended inwardly and loosely connected at 5. in order to draw the downwardl extending arms toward each other and throw the jaws 1 of the clamp into engagement with the bottle neck spring members 6 are provided which connect each pair of the downwardly extending arms 4 and are preferably secured to hook members 7 projecting outwardly therefrom. it will thus be apparent that in applying the clamp the jaws i can be forced apart against the tension of the spring 6 and that when the jaws are released the same will he drawn into an operative position through the medium of the said s rings. The 0 posite arms 8 of each pair of t e bell crank evers 3 reject outwardly in opposite directions and ave the link members 9 pivoted to the extremities thereof.
A. keeper 10 is loosely connected to the inner ends of each pair of tie linlr members 9 and the said keepers form a means for connecting the hooked ends of the bail 11 to the above described clamping device. This bail 11 is of the conventional construction and is shown as having the handle 12 applied thereto. in the specific construction of the keeper 10 it will be observed that the lower portion thereof is bifurcated to receive the inner ends.
of the link members 9 which overlap each other and are pivotally mounted upon the pin 13 connecting the two arms of the bifurcation. When the keepers 10 are pushed downwardly either through the medium of the bail 11 or by any other convenient means the link members 9 are drawn into alinement with each other and the bell crank levers 2 moved outwardly in such a manner as to throw the l away from each other. When in this position the clamping ring can he applied to the neck of the bottle or other receptacle and upon an upward force being exerted upon the keepers 10 the tension in ing levers plied to the ends of the band, a
bail, and colting means between the bail and the ope levers.
in a device oi. the character described, the comhination of a clamping hand, hell crank levers applied to the ends of the band for drawing the same together, a bail, and connecting means between the bail and the bell crank levers,
3, In a device of the character described, the combination of a clamping band, operating levers applied to the ends of the band for drawing the same together, link members connected to the operating levers, a bail, and connecting means between the bail and the link memhers.
l. In a device of the character described, the combination of a clamping band, bell crank levers applied to the ends of the band to draw the same together, the said bell crank levers having one pair of arms pivotally connected while the opposite pair extend outwardly in opposite directions, link members connected to the extremities of the second mentioned pair of arms, a bail, and connecting means between the bail and the said link members.
5. In a device of the character described, the combination of a clamping band, bell crank levers applied to the ends of the band, the said bell crank levers having one pair of eraser arms pivotally connected while the opposite 1 pair of arms extend outwardly in opposite (ii--- l rections, link members loosely connected to the extremities of the second mentioned pair 1 of arms, a keeper connected to the link mem- I here, and a bail applied to the keepers.
l 6. In a device of the combination of 1 of oppositely the character described, a clamp comprising a pair facing jaws, bell crank levers pivotally connected to the ends of the jaws, each pair of bell crank levers having correspending arms extending downwardly and pivotally connected while the opposite arms project outwardly in opposite directions, link members loosely connected to the extremities of the second mentioned arms, a hoe er connecting the inner ends of each air of link members, and a bail applied to t c keepers. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
